Summary

The year was 1915. Equipment and food supplies were totally inadequate. After battling its way for six weeks through thousands of miles of pack ice and located only a day's sail from its destination, the Endurance became locked inside an island of ice. Yet Ernest Shackleton enabled all 27 of his men to survive for over a year on the ice-bound Antarctic seas - leadership without equal. This gripping account is based on contemporaneous diaries and interviews conducted by the author with these exceptional men.

Brilliant

Superbly gripping story of Shackleton's voyage and rescue of 27 men from Antartica to Elephant Island. Beautifully written and very well performed. This is a book everyone should read, if only once, in their lifetime. Shackleton's leadership is legendary.

Exceptional

Were they hero's or fools?
Wonderful telling of these men's lives.
Tim Piggott-Smith portrayed the feeling of horror and delight in this recounting of how men overcame intense hardship.

Great story of Shackeltons voyage however...

The story is all here in a good summary of the main points and good insights into what the men went through but I feel like I will read other books as I didn't get the full detail I wanted. The last part of the book felt like it just rushed over major parts of the story however, I give it 5stars as its free on audible plus and well told.

Amazing Story of Survival

I have always been fascinated by Shackleton's (et al) story of survival, especially across the Southern Ocean, in a row boat, but their stories' details in this audiobook gets you right in there, amongst their hardships, miseries, pain & sufferings... Great audiobook to listen to, in order to appreciate just how "tough" these men (Heros All....) were.

Just incredible

It’s incredibly hard to write any review on such a masterpiece based on real event.
For some, it will be full of inspiration. For some, just nice bedtime story. Nevertheless, it’s an amazing source of inspiration especially if you need one.

Gripping

What a study of perseverance and downright bloody-mindedness!! Amazingly read, the story is all the more awe-inspiring for being true. I think k I would have laid down and curled up long ago! A great read!

Fantastic story

A time when men were made of sturner stuff. A modest hand shake after 14 month of gruelling hell - makes you proud to be an Englishman.
