The benefits of restrictive diets like paleo and keto have been touted for more than a decade, but as renowned gastroenterologist Dr. Will Bulsiewicz, or "Dr. B", illuminates in this groundbreaking audiobook, the explosion of studies on the microbiome makes it abundantly clear that elimination diets are in fact hazardous to our health. What studies clearly now show - and what Dr. B preaches with his patients - is that gut health is the key to boosting our metabolism, balancing our hormones, and taming the inflammation that causes a host of diseases.

From tuberculosis to bird flu and HIV to coronavirus, these infectious diseases share a common origin story: human interaction with animals. Otherwise known as zoonotic diseases for their passage from animals to humans, these pathogens - both preexisting ones and those newly identified - emerge and reemerge throughout history, sparking epidemics and pandemics that have resulted in millions of deaths around the world. How did these diseases come about? And what - if anything - can we do to stop them and their fatal march into our countries, our homes and our bodies?

Despite believing he was bionic as a child, Ira Rainey was far from an elite athlete with superhuman running abilities like the ones he read about in books. He was in fact an overweight and unfit slacker who felt a bit sorry for himself because he had sore feet. Sure he ran a bit, but he also sat around a lot and ate and drank too much. Why? Because he could, and because he was a delusional optimist who thought everything would always be just fine.

Summary
In Eat Sh*t and Die, best-selling author and weight-loss guru David Clark takes a deep dive into the epicenter of the food-addition crisis. At times funny, others times starkly serious, David delivers the unvarnished truth about why we overeat in his blunt and fearlessly honest style. He makes the case for how the food and the fitness industries have failed us and how today’s food manufacturers conspire to turn us into addicts by hijacking our minds and decimating our bodies.
But David doesn’t just educate on how we become addicted or placate the listener by offering up a new-age diet plan. Instead, in the Radical Rehab section of this audiobook, he guides the listener through a 10-step ritual designed to reprogram the mind, repair the body, and inspire a complete personal transformation.
In his third audiobook, Clark delivers with a refreshing message that needs to be heard by all people feeling helpless to change their destructive ways. David has both the resume and confidence required to challenge the listener to take personal responsibility while at the same time displaying incredible compassion for those struggling. Having transformed his own life from bloated 320-pound alcoholic to elite athlete, he understands exactly what it takes to change, and he will not stop until you have everything you need to create a new life for yourself so amazing that you’d have to be an idiot to walk away from it.

Inspiring, educational & direct
I have never had any interest in making huge changes to my diet. I needed to clean up my eating habits but no way was I interested in just whole food, plant based. Midway or earlier in the book, he had me. The benefits for my health to do the radical rehab and 30 days of WFPB was compelling. No guilt about hurting animals that turns me off quickly. I went in thinking I'd clean up my eating and learn a ton of great plant based recipes to add more veggies into my diet. I just finished day 21 and know I will do more than that. I just went back for seconds for kale... Are you kidding me? David is looking down smiling and likely laughing as he encouraged me to do this 5 years ago and I laughed. I will likely bring back seafood and a little dairy here and there (yogurt) but I really enjoy this and how I'm feeling. Inflammation down with my hip that had halted my running, feeling better overall and loving the food. He gives info as to where to go online to find easy recipes that taste amazing and he wasn't lying. I was living on cheese and cokes and went to this abrupt change. On day 5 of the radical rehab I only ate 353 calories. I was full. This is only 5 days.. But I was in shock. I had no desire to eat just to eat and enjoyed the sweet potato tacos that he talked about the next day. I feel behind on some of the other work. I've got a lot going on in my life distracting me, so getting on that and will keep this going while I do. He recognizes this in the book and is kind about how it happens. I also got the Kindle to get details I wanted and the audiobook is way better because you get the inflection of how he was saying it. I'll miss you David. I am heartbroken that I can't message you and tell you I finally took your advice and you were right. I wish you were here to give us a part 2. Thanks for being an amazing and inspiring guy. I'll forever cherish our runs in the rain together. I'll raise my WFPB smoothie to you and carry your advice with me all of my days. You, my friend, have changed the world. My best to your family. ❤️
