Summary

In New York Times best-selling author Marie Force’s dazzling historical romance debut, the clock is ticking for a wealthy duke who must marry by his 30th birthday - or lose his title....

Derek Eagan, the dashing Duke of Westwood, is well aware of his looming deadline. But weary of tiresome debutantes, he seeks a respite at his country home in Essex - and encounters a man digging on his property. Except he’s not a man. He’s a very lovely woman. Who suddenly faints at his feet.

Catherine McCabe’s disdain for the aristocracy has already led her to flee an arranged marriage with a boorish viscount. The last thing she wants is to be waylaid in a duke’s home. Yet, she is compelled to stay by the handsome, thoughtful man who introduces himself as the Duke’s estate manager.

Derek realizes two things immediately: he is captivated by her delicate beauty, and to figure out what she was up to, Catherine must not know he is the Duke. But as they fall passionately in love, Derek’s lie spins out of control. Will their bond survive his deception, not to mention the scorned viscount’s pursuit? Most important, can Catherine fall in love all over again - this time with the Duke?

Great historical novel

Marie does it again. This book was everything we expect from a Marie Force book, great plot, amazing characters and steamy romance. This is my first historical romance and I loved it. Looking forward to the series.

Marie Force Rocks Her 1st Historical Romance

I love the Marie force Gansett Island series so when I heard she wrote her first Historical Romance, I dedicated to give it a try. To be honest I've been wanting to try out the genre for a while now.

The story itself was utterly amazing. I loved it beyond words. I can't speak highly enough of it. Such a great love story for so many reasons.

The only thing I have negative to say is about the voice actors. There was a male and a female. And while the male did okay, the female could only do the one voice, so it was very hard to figure out if she was speaking as the male or the female at the time. I mean it was really bad. She didn't even try to distinguish between different voices for different characters. They had a male and a female voice actor - so why not have the male read the male parts and the female read the female parts? Would have worked out WAY WAY WAY better.

I made myself finish... :-(

I decided to try this audio because it had been a while since I had listened to a historical romance and since I love Shane East I felt this would be a sure thing. Unfortunately for me this story dragged and I was very turned off by the slow pace of the action and how the leading female became whiny when facing difficulty. The narration was basically the only reason I kept at it, but the overall "Insta-Love" between them and the whole "keeping his name a secret" was just not motivating to me.

Weak Story Line

Typical damsel in distress tale but so weak. Author tries to force romance and sex with a some story line with so many stereotypical storey arcs but timeframe, corny dialogue, and unrealistic events just make it all fall apart. So hard to follow and so many times I wanted quit listening. I still don't know why I continued.. probably will stop soon.

The readers made do with what they could. Great performance but they can't carry the story on their own.

EXCELLENT BOOK

Again Marie Force has delivered a masterpiece. Although I was not sure if I would like a story set in “old times” of English nobles, Marie changed my mind!

A good listen.

I am not one for historical romance but since it was Marie Force I gave it a listen. The voices of the character's really brought it alive. I couldn't wait to find what the key opened and was not disappointed. I did get distracted by the "Simon says" wording but that is just my odd sense of humor. I will definitely be waiting for the next book in the series.
