About this listen

For too long Miss Emily Parr has been subject to the whims of her indebted uncle and the lecherous advances of his repulsive business partner. Her plan to be done with dominating men forever is simple: find herself a kind husband who will leave her to her books. It seems an easy enough plan, until she is unexpectedly abducted by an incorrigible duke who hides a wounded spirit behind flashing green eyes. Godric St. Laurent, Duke of Essex, spends countless nights at the club with his four best friends and relishes the rakish reputation society has branded him with.

He has no plans to marry anytime soon - if ever. But when he kidnaps an embezzler's niece, the difficult debutante's blend of sweetness and sharp tongue makes him desperate for the one thing he swears he never wanted: love. Yet as they surrender to passion, danger lurks in Godric's shadowed past, waiting for him to drop his guard - and to rob him of the woman he can't live without.

I loved the book , but not the narrator. To me the performance was lifeless.

GREAT book

This story definitely deserves the five stars I have awarded. The characters are extremely well written and quite believable. I recommend this book which includes the audible version to anyone who likes their historical romance with a a bit of steam. I will certainly continue to read books by this author.

Really enjoyed this, going on to read the rest of the series. The characters and their relationships are brilliant and the story is fast paced

Funny, romantic, various narratives

Brilliant storytelling and narration. Slightly slow pace but didn’t detract. The moral issues raised were quite tormenting. Emily is a delightful balance of naivety and strength. The characters develop richly and without artifice. Difficult and delightful to listen to. Well done.

Moral conundrum

There wasn't much of a storyline but the characters were fun. The author obviously paid no attention to the strictures of the time.

The story was dragged into monotony by the awful Narrator who talked as if she was giving football results. Very short statements with no flow.
Very poor narration.

A 'nice' if not ridiculous storyline at times.
