Summary

For fans of Miranda James and Jenn McKinlay comes an enthralling series debut featuring a librarian who solves mysteries with the help of a ghost in the stacks.

Carrie Singleton is just about done with Clover Ridge, Connecticut until she is offered a job as the head of programs and events at the spooky local library, complete with its own librarian ghost. Her first major event is a program presented by a retired homicide detective, Al Buckley, who claims he knows who murdered Laura Foster, a much-loved part-time library aide who was bludgeoned to death 15 years earlier. As he invites members of the audience to share stories about Laura, he suddenly keels over and dies.

The medical examiner reveals that poison is what did him in, and Carrie feels responsible for having gone forward with the program despite pushback from her director. Driven by guilt, Carrie is determined to discover who murdered the detective, convinced it's the same man who killed Laura all those years ago. Luckily for Carrie, she has a friendly, knowledgeable ghost by her side. But as she questions the shadows surrounding Laura's case, disturbing secrets come to light, and with each step Carrie takes, she gets closer to ending up like Al.

Dreadful accent!

Impossible to finish due to narrator's terrible Scottish accent! Male voices also sounded too similar.

Loved this, already started the next

I’m so glad I tried these. I needed a nice entertaining book and to have a series with great characters is perfect!

its too slow paced

im so Sorry but i picked this because i hoped it would be peak autumn plus murder in a quiet village.
it isnt - and i may be biased but her job seems too easy to what being head of events usually is.
HOWEVER I hadn't guess who did it till the end

Mixed feelings

The story is well written but the perpetrator is obvious from first meeting.

The heroine is likeable in some ways but she is also uncaring of the safety of others and herself. She also drinks and drives.

I feel that a more careful overhaul and thorough editing of the original manuscript would have created a much better book.

A bit too far fetched

This book was free with my subscription, and so I don’t want to be too negative but the plot is fairly simple: the bad guys are really bad, while for the main character everything works out just perfectly.

I normally like cozy mysteries, but this just kept me company while driving, nothing more that background noises.

I liked the narrator, I think her voice was pleasant and relaxing.
