Summary
An Amazon Charts bestseller.
An unlikely pair teams up to investigate a brutal murder in a haunting thriller that walks the line between reality and impossibility.
When small-town police officers discover the grave of a young boy, they’re quick to pin the crime on a convicted criminal who lives nearby. But when it comes to murder, Officer Susan Marlan never trusts a simple explanation, so she’s just getting started.
Meanwhile, college professor Eric Evans hallucinates a young boy in overalls: a symptom of his schizophrenia - or so he thinks. But when more bodies turn up, Eric has more visions, and they mirror details of the murder case. As the investigation continues, the police stick with their original conclusion, but Susan’s instincts tell her something is off. The higher-ups keep stonewalling her, and the FBI’s closing in.
Desperate for answers, Susan goes rogue and turns to Eric for help. Together they take an unorthodox approach to the case as the evidence keeps getting stranger. With Eric’s hallucinations intensifying and the body count rising, can the pair separate truth from illusion long enough to catch a monster?

ugh..
I love a good murder mystery, however I struggled with this book. To be honest, you can just about skip over the first 5 hours because for me, it added nothing to the actual plot of the book other then explaining how one character ends up moving to town. I found myself zoning out a lot up until it actually started diving into the murder mystery side of it. Without giving too much away, I wish the author would have focused more on the actual murder victim(s) and how they came to be in their situations rather then the back stories of the detective and the new town resident. I will give credit for part of the ending being something I did not expect, however it was not enough of a wow factor for me to get over how unamused I was by the rest of the book. I ended up returning the book after I finished it. I might consider giving some her other work a shot but considering this was a "best seller" I'm thinking her writing is just not my cup of tea.

Clueless cop = horrible story line
I just spent hours listening to a book that frustrated me the entire time! The main female character is a cop and the worst, dumbest cop EVER. Why the heck did the author feel the need to write a storyline that made the female a stereotypical clueless woman instead of a capable officer like her male counterparts?? Seriously- if she could find a way to make a stupid decision, it was done at every opportunity. It’s like watching a horror movie when the dumb girl sees the killer in the room and decides to go in and check it out anyway. I’m not sure that character was smart enough to tie her own shoelaces. So frustrating to read/hear. The story was so obvious - you knew what was going to happen from page 2 of the book! Kept hoping it would get better and instead it just got more obvious and more frustrating. Skip this one!!!

THERE WAS A STORY SOMEWHERE ...
The idea that led to this story might have been okay had it been handled by a more-seasoned author such as Gaiman or Ahlborn. But, as written, the story had no element of shock or horror that hadn’t already been written about many times before and was instead somewhat juvenile and at times annoying. Horror doesn’t seem to be this writer’s genre.

To Wordy For My Taste
When you start to get into the story, she would start getting way to descriptive with things that really had little bearing on the story.
In my opinion, was a good story, read well, but leave some of the descriptors behind.
