Deputy Mattie Cobb is in a dark place and has withdrawn from Cole Walker and his family to work on issues from her past. When she and her K-9 partner, Robo, get called to track a missing junior high student, they find the girl dead on Smoker's Hill behind the high school, and Mattie must head to the Walker home to break the bad news. But that's only the start of trouble in Timber Creek because soon another girl goes missing - and this time it's one of Cole's daughters.
Knowing that each hour a child remains missing lessens the probability of finding her alive, Mattie and Robo lead the hunt while Cole and community volunteers join in to search everywhere, but to no avail. It seems that someone has snatched all trace of the Walker girl from their midst, including her scent. Grasping at straws, Mattie and Robo follow a phoned-in tip into the dense forest, where they hope to find a trace of the girl's scent and to rescue her alive. But when Robo does catch her scent, it leads them to information that challenges everything they thought they knew about the case.
Mattie and Robo must rush to hunt down the kidnapper before they're too late in Hunting Hour, the third installment in critically acclaimed author Margaret Mizushima's exhilarating mystery series.
This is one of my favorite K9 Series! I do not want to include any spoilers so rather than describing the Hunting Hour, which you can find elsewhere, I will address the series as a whole. All of the books are great and have my highest recommendation!
The plots are realistic, the writing is good, the characters are well developed and likable, and the narration is wonderful. Hunting Hour is the 3rd book in the series. The characters have remained consistent, and each story has been narrated by Nancy Wu. I highly recommend reading the series in order. Each book is easy to follow, enjoyable to listen to and unfortunately goes by way too fast. I'm always so sad when I finish one of Mizushima's books and I find myself wishing she could write with super speed!
The series is set in a small Colorado town. Each character has his or her own problems so nobody is to perfect to be unlikable or unbelievable. The series stars police K9 Robo and his police handler Maggie. Another consistent figure in the books is Cole, the local Veterinarian and his two daughters, Sofie and Angie. He has horses and often treats horses in his vet clinic so for any horse lover this will be a plus.
Nancy Wu does a wonderful job narrating. Her voice is unique and at first I wasn't sure about it but after about 30 minutes into the first book I realized I love it. She can handle male and female character voices as well as children's voices. The quality of the recording is professional.
I highly recommend listening to the entire series in the following order:
1. Killing Trail
3. Hunting Hour

I've listened to good books before, but never have I listened to one all in one day...I haven't done that since I was a kid, reading.
Excellent character development, story, and delivery (Wu hoo!)
I immediately downloaded another Mizushima book....but I'd better eat something before I turn it back on...

This was the second book I listened to by this author. I found the characters easy to relate to and very likeable. The plot kept you interested and was not easily predictable. I would recommend this book to other listeners and look forward to future books in this series.
This is one of the better authors I have read/listened too. The reader has a great voice. This particular book had me stumped on “who dunnit”. I really hope Ms Margaret writes more stories!
This book is fair, good I guess you can say. The performer leaves a lot to be desired. She reads a book like she’s just reading the story without any inflection or differences in the characters
I always enjoy the K 9 books. I have read/listened to all that have been published so far. I enjoy them most because of the integrity with which the author writes-clean, neat, and a good story.
Kept me on my toes entire time! This is my favorite from her so far! Looking forward to another!
another good story. Love Robo! there was a lot of suspense in this one. Recommend
This was a very good story. Had me guessing to the end and usually I can figure out the culprit before then. But I have difficulties liking Mattie. And Cole isn't much better. Both of them seem to think they can do anything they want without regard for rules, orders or other people.
I probably won't get book 4 when it comes out.
A good, easy read with nice characters in a small town setting. It is nice to see a positive side of police work. Just wish the main character would make up her mind about her relationship.
