Great Book to Learn Tips about Our Pet Dogs

This book is just what I was looking for! It contains a lot of tips and strategies that are very, very useful when it comes to our pet dogs. My boyfriend and I were planning to get a dog for quite some time already but before we actually made our decision, we had to consider a few things. We were hesitant on whether to get a male or a female dog, a puppy or a grown dog, didn’t know which breed is ideal, and most importantly, we were unsure if we have time to take care of it.

Those questions were answered after I stumbled upon this amazing book. It has shed us some light and helped us decide. Now, it has already been one week since we got our puppy and we are really happy with our decision! Every detail in this book is definitely of great help in giving you the idea starting from how to properly look after them, feed them, understand them, what their needs are, how to keep an eye on their health, up to even the most specific questions running in your head right now!

If you are a dog owner or still indecisive on whether to get a dog or not, I highly recommend this book!

Everything you Need to Know About Dogs!

This book on dogs is really a must-read for anyone who has or is considering getting a puppy or dog.

It contained many new ideas and tips that I had not previously encountered and tackles everything you can think of when it comes to knowing more about being a dog owner.

You are taken right through the process, from things to think about before you choose a breed and preparing your home, right through to diet and training tips.

For me, the best part was where the author focused on puppies and their training, sleep and toilet. It was a wealth of valuable info and certainly gave me some new things to consider.

I cannot recommend this book highly enough if you are planning, or have become a dog-owner. This guide will definitely come in handy!

Excellent guide for understanding your puppy

I really enjoyed this audiobook for a number of reasons. I’ve been wanting to get a dog for a long time but know my circumstances don’t really allow for it, I really liked that this book emphasises the responsibility and commitment involved in getting a dog and asks you to consider whether you are able to dedicate the necessary time and expenses for properly caring for a dog.
I really enjoyed the section which talks about the pros and cons of a number of different popular breeds. It details their characteristics, whether they are good with kids, grooming, exercise needs and potential health problems which is incredibly useful to know ahead of time in finding the right breed for you.
It has a really great section on health concerns with dogs and a guide on how you can check over your dog to pick up on any health issues.
There is also a nice section on simple training techniques which will really help you to get started with your new dog. Great little guide and definitely worth listening to, especially before making the commitment of getting a dog.

A neat overview of bringing a dog into your life.

'Dogs' is a helpful introduction to choosing the right dog for your situation/family and guiding it through the issues of puppyhood into life as a balanced family pet. There is a wealth of sound, beginner-level, insight and information here, and I would recommend this to anyone new to dogs or wishing to 'start from scratch', so to speak.

I run a pet services business that mainly focuses on dogs, and I really like the positive approach of this book. It takes the perspective of reward based training and assumes that time is freely available to work with your puppy - otherwise you wouldn't have brought a dog into your life, right? I think this is a valuable lesson in and of itself, as most of the doggie issues we see are down to people not investing enough time in their puppies.

Training and play are considered in some detail and the emphasis given to play is refreshing and - if taken on board - life enhancing for both dog and human.

While not comprehensive, I loved the taster session at the beginning, looking at the different popular breeds of dog and their traits, and despite many breeds not being mentioned, the author does provide information about where to look on the web for full breed lists.

I also champion the references to nutrition that suggest choosing good quality feed for your dog, as this will benefit their health, weight, vitality and longevity. Great advice for all.

The Audio is well narrated by Joshua Mackey, in a clear and enthusiastic style, which helps both understanding and attention, though I think this is probably at least a 2-session listen.

A good start but too brief. Left me disappointed.

The book is a good intro but that's as fast as it goes. I felt the book was a miss mash of info. From lots of places. The info and content was useful but needed much more elaboration. It left me wanting more. Therefore if u are a complete novice maybe there is something useful here but I wouldn't waste my money but would look elsewhere. Interesting but too short and incomplete also rushed to squeeze the info into 1h30m..

All you need to know about dogs!

Where does Dogs rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Very high, number 2 in my top 10 favorites audio books.

What did you like best about this story?

I like the vivid and informative chapter about different dog breeds. That characteristic give you valuable information how is dogs behavior, nutrition, care and relationships with children and others people and animals. After listening "Dogs" I have very good background which breed is the best to keep as a pet and what I should prepare to welcome dog in my home.

Have you listened to any of Joshua Mackey’s other performances? How does this one compare?

Joshua Mackey is a usually well prepared for his narration. I was listening "Cats" several times, as well as others audio books by Ace McCloud, so this time I found his narration even more enthusiastic, engaging and cheerful. I think that Joshua must be the animal lover, because his voice tone is really cheerful when he is reading about dogs.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I was very emotional about passage about adopting rescue dogs, especially middle age dogs. That is a big and challenging thing, because this is very demanding when you start retraining process. You have to be very patient, never lose his temper because this dog can have bad memories. very useful tips is present yourself as a leader and teacher. "Dogs" presents how to spend time with your dog, how to walk with him or play, how to teach him good manners.

Any additional comments?

Very enthusiastic audio book that shows you not only pleasurable things about dogs but also duties and responsibilities like vet visit, choosing the right diet and nutrition, potty training and reduce inappropriate behavior.

Not a great listen - very basic indeed.

Basic, patronising, simplistic and in places downright dubious. Would not recommend at all. Very disappointing.
