Story
Spiritual practice, Pema Chödrön teaches, has nothing to do with self-improvement, since, as the course's title claims, you're already perfect right now. The limitless qualities of loving-kindness, compassion, joy, and equanimity are your deep-down, ultimate reality, and those are qualities that can't be improved upon. If you're not feeling particularly kind, compassionate, joyful, or equanimous at the moment, take heart: the Four Limitless Ones are there like seeds, waiting to be cultivated through practice.

Story
Life has a way of provoking us with traffic jams and computer malfunctions, with emotionally distant partners and crying children - and before we know it, we're upset. We feel terrible, and then we end up saying and doing things that only make matters worse. But it doesn't have to be that way, says Pema Chödrön. It is possible to relate constructively to the inevitable shocks, losses, and frustrations of life so that we can find true happiness. The key, Pema explains, is not biting the "hook" of our habitual responses.

In this audiobook program, Pema Chödrön presents her definitive teachings on lojong. She offers an overview of the practice and goes on to provide inspiring commentary on the slogans while paying special attention to how to apply them on the spot in our daily lives.

Here Pema Chödrön presents the five aphorisms for developing fearlessness that were given to Machig Lapdronma, one of Tibetan Buddhism's greatest female teachers. Story
On Getting Unstuck, Pema Chodron introduces a rare Tibetan teaching she received from her teacher, Dzigar Kontrul Rinpoche, and one that has become critical to her practice. Here, she unveils the mystery of an ineffable quality; a "pre-emotional" feeling that arises in us, brings us discomfort, and causes us to react by escaping the discomfort, often with harmful habits. With Getting Unstuck, she offers us a first look at "both the itch and the scratch": what Tibetan Buddhists call shenpa.

Story
It's one thing to hear a life-changing truth or to have a conceptual grasp on spiritual wisdom. But it’s another thing to "walk the walk" - or to put into practice the good advice we've been given. What does it mean to walk the walk in our everyday lives? According to Pema Chödrön, it means being down-to-earth, genuine, and perhaps most importantly, it means engaging in the teachings in order to actively confront anything and everything we’ve heretofore rejected in our attempts to find happiness.

A set of talks that work as a book
Often talks given to a particular audience at a certain time don't translate well into audiobooks. I was delighted that in this case 'Bodhisattva Mind' works very well. It's good to hear the teacher herself giving her teachings in her own words, rather than on the page. The talks are easy to hear, and to follow. I found that the audiobook complements Pema Chodron's commentary on Shantideva's Bodhicarayavatara - 'No Time to Lose'
Pema Chodron's spirited, down to earth instructions on how to live a life of kindness for ourself and others in the muddle of our busy lives. Wonderful!

Eight Delightful Hours
It was with sheer delight that I listened, spellbound, to Pema Chodron's lectures on the The Bodhisattva Mind. Her gentle voice, captivating humour and down to earth delivery brings Buddhism and the Buddhist philosophy right into the hearts and minds of the ordinary person, even those who may not have had any exposure to it before. What a great listen; one I will be repeating over and over again.

Wow, what an amazing teacher!
Pema Chodron is such an amazing and intelligent teacher who comes across as totally egoless. She has such a simple way of explaining complex subjects and her choice of words cut straight to the point without over complicating the subject she is talking about.
I’ve listened to many spiritual teachers over the years and Pema is definitely one of the best.

First Understanding of Buddhism
This recording was my first introduction to Buddhism. Pema Chodron is the best first teacher anyone could ask for. Her explanations are simple yet deep and based on experiences that I could relate to. She is funny and easy to listen to. I'm now listening to this recording for the second time.
I took a Mediation 101 class last month and this is the perect next step in my practice. I highly recommend it and plan to listen to more of Pema Chodron's other works.

Wonderful!
Pema is insightful and humorous, breathing life and understanding into what at first glace seems like dry material. The teachings on being a source of joy and compassion while staying in contact with your humility and modesty are profound in our increasingly shallow modern age.
As for the techniques for developing these qualities, eradicating misery and pain by not creating any anew or reacting to any is logical to even the most scientific mind. I can tell you from personal experience that although it is difficult at first, these methods do actually work and do not require any belief in Buddhism or religion. She proves that instead of the axiom "Beauty is skin deep" it should read "Surface beuty is skin deep- but real beauty radiates from within."
This book helped me push away post-partum depression and bring true happiness back into my life for the first time in fifteen years. I would recommend it to anyone at any stage of life.

lots of people vote and don't write reviews
Some doo-dah down below in the reviews said obviously the publisher posted reviews to prop up this work. I don't write reviews often because I am too busy and other people have said what I would have written already. But I do vote. This book is about seeing yourself the way you resist seeing yourself and seeing others with a new-found compassion because of it. It is about our willingness to see the speck in another's eye while ignoring our own log in the eye. And it offers hope and love as the rewards for our efforts. It is my favorite Pema work though I love everything I have heard by her - probably all her audiobooks. I do audios as my eyes are not so good anymore, must have been all those logs :-D , and I drive an hour a day to my job which is the perfect listening time for this work - get ready to see things differently before work and process before I get home. God bless Pema and her work.

I have studied Buddhism in the past and never came close to the understanding I have now through Pema Chodron's teachings. Her ability to translate into a relatable American framework is amazing. This recording is some of her best work as she delves into the heart of Buddhism with humor and authenticity. I listen to her work every day on the way to work and this audio book kept me laughing along with increasing my understanding.

So useful for those on the Bodhisattva path
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I'd only recommend this book to those who are seriously studying the Bodhisattva path. There's a lot of detail in this teaching that is meant to illuminate our path and the vows we take.
Many of Pema's teachings are useful for all paths, but this one is specific to those who study and practice as Bodhisattvas.
