A young woman's body is found in a remote barn on the Fens. Before she was killed, one of her fingers had been cut off. Who is inflicting this violence and why?

The young woman in the barn had been kept captive for some time. And the case shows strong similarities to an unsolved murder in Derbyshire. When another woman is found alive with similar injuries, the case grows even more complicated.

At the same time, the Fenland police have received intelligence that the ruthless criminal Freddy Carver plans to make Greenborough the hub for his new enterprise. DI Nikki Galena is desperate to track down Freddie Carver and make sure that he does not put down roots in the Fens, but finding him is not easy. And what's his connection to the kidnapped girls?

Another great plot unfolds in the battle against crime. Joseph's accent is still rather annoying and unattractive (sounds like a very pompous Englishman rather than the heroic wingman!).

Compelling plot

There were times when I was willing the story to end quickly so that I didn’t have to suffer the narrators voice any longer. The different “voices” the narrator used for the people were at times so bad!! I enjoyed the story but in future I may just read them myself- or at least check out the narrator first.

Really have enjoyed this series so far but NOT the narration!

As usual this is up to Joy Ellis standard she never fails to deliver . Wish I could say the same for the narrator. Her accents are atrocious and her word pronunciation is appalling . Unfortunately I am addicted to the books and I am not always well enough to read them myself .I highly recommend the whole series in book form . The Jackman series is great in book and audio format .

Brilliant story

is it not about time they both admitted their true feelings and got together, it's like a simmering pot waiting to boil

all the usual expected twists and turns
