Called in to investigate, Detective Karen Hart is sure that parallels with a previous disappearance are anything but coincidental. Summary
Detective Joseph Easter's daughter discovers a cottage hidden in some trees on a large fenland farm. Someone has been living there.
The farm owner's wife has been receiving sinister pagan artifacts, including a witch's knife. Are they some sort of warning or message?
Joseph and his daughter search the cottage and find an old satchel. Inside are photos of a beautiful girl, Jennifer Cowley. She went missing 15 years ago. She'd been stalked by a young man, who was convicted of her murder, even though her body was never found.
When DI Nikki Galena examines the cottage, she finds something far worse.
And in the satchel is a more recent photo of a girl who looks just like Jennifer.
The man who killed Jennifer is recently out of prison. Has he struck again?
At the same time, DC Cat Cullen and Dave Harris are trying to get evidence against a man who preys on widowed older women. Vernon Deacon is seemingly a pillar of society, with very influential friends. But his victims aren't believed, so their job is not easy.

Narrator is Crap!
The narrator has such a monotone voice that it is very difficult to follow, to the point of not wanting to.
Shame, because Joy Ellis writes a good book, but ruined in this instance by the narrator.
Also, why do you have to give one star to rate something, I would give her any stars!

Ends in cliffhanger!
I'm down rating HIDDEN ON THE FENS one star because it ends in a bit of a cliffhanger not made obvious in the publishers summary. The prior 10 novels in the DI Nikki Galena have all been standalone. Hidden on the Fens is an excellent modern detective novel with great narration. I have enjoyed all eleven books in the series.
British author Joy Ellis currently has three active series and is releasing new novels at the rate of one every three months. All three series are of the modern detective genre and all are set on the English east cost area known as the fens.

Loved it
These books are SO good! Nikki and Joseph - and Tamsin and Niall - get involved in an “old house in the woods” mystery. At the same time, other members of the team are investigating rape charges and trying to make the charges stick. Do the two cases have anything in common?
I was disappointed when I figured out who the murderer was. Then, wham!, that solution was blown out of the water. I had no clue how this would end and I like it that way.
Well worth waiting for. Another excellent novel by Ms Ellis and a great narration by Henrietta Meire.

Another book to folly this story line
Henrietta Meire's past narration were great, you can tell each character. This book they all run into each other, half the time I could not figure out the men from the women.
That being said, I hope there is a continuation of the story line, because we were left hanging.. It is very clear who the killer is, and it is not the guy arrested.

Good action, interesting storyline but..
I enjoyed this book very much, it was full of twists and odd characters with dark hidden secrets. It kept my interest right through to the end. I haven't found a Fens book I didn't like. I do have one complaint and it may sound a bit petty to someone else however, The book kept referring to a Atheemee or Aseemee and I was puzzled, it took me a while to figure out that narrator was mispronouncing Athame' and it drove me a bit nuts every time it happened.
