Summary

Detective Joseph Easter's daughter discovers a cottage hidden in some trees on a large fenland farm. Someone has been living there.

The farm owner's wife has been receiving sinister pagan artifacts, including a witch's knife. Are they some sort of warning or message?

Joseph and his daughter search the cottage and find an old satchel. Inside are photos of a beautiful girl, Jennifer Cowley. She went missing 15 years ago. She'd been stalked by a young man, who was convicted of her murder, even though her body was never found.

When DI Nikki Galena examines the cottage, she finds something far worse.

And in the satchel is a more recent photo of a girl who looks just like Jennifer.

The man who killed Jennifer is recently out of prison. Has he struck again?

At the same time, DC Cat Cullen and Dave Harris are trying to get evidence against a man who preys on widowed older women. Vernon Deacon is seemingly a pillar of society, with very influential friends. But his victims aren't believed, so their job is not easy.

Brilliant as usual.

Loved this thriller story. Love all the characters Nicki, Joseph and all the team. I hope it won’t be too long before we get another story from the Fen’s always a good ending to Joy Ellis’s books.

Narrator is Crap!

The narrator has such a monotone voice that it is very difficult to follow, to the point of not wanting to.
Shame, because Joy Ellis writes a good book, but ruined in this instance by the narrator.
Also, why do you have to give one star to rate something, I would give her any stars!

Hidden on the Fen

The narrator was awful, dull monotonous narration. Suck it out due to a good story,If the next book is narrated by Henrietta Meire I will not be purchasing it

Disappointing

I was so looking forward to this next instalment of DI Nikki Galena but was left feeling disappointed. With so many strong characters in this series coming to their natural and expected retirement I would of loved to see the introduction of new characters to keep the series alive.

Ends in cliffhanger!

I'm down rating HIDDEN ON THE FENS one star because it ends in a bit of a cliffhanger not made obvious in the publishers summary. The prior 10 novels in the DI Nikki Galena have all been standalone. Hidden on the Fens is an excellent modern detective novel with great narration. I have enjoyed all eleven books in the series.

British author Joy Ellis currently has three active series and is releasing new novels at the rate of one every three months. All three series are of the modern detective genre and all are set on the English east cost area known as the fens.

Loved it

These books are SO good! Nikki and Joseph - and Tamsin and Niall - get involved in an “old house in the woods” mystery. At the same time, other members of the team are investigating rape charges and trying to make the charges stick. Do the two cases have anything in common?

I was disappointed when I figured out who the murderer was. Then, wham!, that solution was blown out of the water. I had no clue how this would end and I like it that way.

Well worth waiting for. Another excellent novel by Ms Ellis and a great narration by Henrietta Meire.

This series is not the best of Ellis

The supposedly brilliant detective comes across as not very bright and also a little tedious. Otherwise, this is a serviceable thriller.

Another book to folly this story line

Henrietta Meire's past narration were great, you can tell each character. This book they all run into each other, half the time I could not figure out the men from the women.

That being said, I hope there is a continuation of the story line, because we were left hanging.. It is very clear who the killer is, and it is not the guy arrested.

Great story

I know a book is really good when I can’t stop thinking about the characters. When I want to go back and read more. Think this is one of Joy Ellis’ best.

Excellent!

Another excellent story in the DI Galena series. Seems to be the last available one for now, so that's a shame! I have enjoyed all the books in this series and hope there will be another. This one was really dark and twisted....such sad circumstances. I'm definitely not cut out to do DI Galena's job!

Truth Cannot Be Hidden

Very interesting crime story. The tragedy of child abuse, the gossip surrounding a person's behavior, the greed in the center of a dysfunctional family, and the unknown strength within are hidden gems exposed in this story. The family dynamics are tragic, but good emerges. Narration is great.

Great!

I’ve enjoyed every book in this series and this one was no exception. It may be the best yet.
Although it is a series, each book stands on its own. Great narration.
