About this listen

Julie kissed Mark at the office Christmas party. She doesn’t seem to remember but he’s not been able to forget. What better day to jog her memory than Valentine’s Day?

Calum’s found the girl of his dreams on the internet. Trouble is, he’s not been completely honest about himself. Tonight he’s meeting her for the first time but will it also be the last?

Nathan’s organized his usual Anti-Valentine’s party for the office singletons. Sophie’s going - again. Though this year, if she gets her way, they might just be leaving together.

One office, five lives, on the most romantic day of the year.

A Day at the Office is a wise, wonderfully moving, and laugh-out-loud novel about life, love, and relationships by bestselling novelist Matt Dunn.

This is the second book I’ve listened to by Mark Dunn and I’ve enjoyed both. There’s been a couple of embarrassing moments that I’ve literally laughed out loud walking down the street listening on my headphones! Will now be looking for another of his books!

Great

The performance of the narrator is brilliant, he handles various characters very well and gives each of them an extinct and playful favour. The story is funny, a traditional comedy one and makes you laugh out loud.

a fun light read

Where does A Day at the Office rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Near the bottom due to the narrator

What was one of the most memorable moments of A Day at the Office?

There were many. I find it hard to pick just one.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

I felt he didn’t have much range in his accents. His voice seemed very flat, particularly for Sophie.

Any additional comments?

I love listening to audiobooks but I wish I had read this instead. I listened to the sample and thought I might get used to the narration but I didn’t. For me it really detracted the pleasure of the story.

I'm probably a bit too old for this, because it all seems a bit twee and juvenile. So I didn't really get into it or get beyond the fourth chapter! I'm not sure if I could wade through the stilted actions and conversations and get to the real heart of the book.

So, my advice is, only read this book if you're under 30 and possibly single, because otherwise you might just find this a bit tedious or bland!!
