Summary

Oboist Sara Baron agrees to cat-sit for a childhood friend, but instead of being greeted by a meowing fluff ball, she walks into a ransacked house and stumbles over her friend’s dead body.

Frantic, she runs next door and enlists the help of a mysterious stranger who knows more than he admits. His charm, not to mention his deep chestnut eyes, is balanced by his guardedness, unexplained absences, and seemingly nonexistent past. Is he helping her expose the murderer or covering his tracks?

Meanwhile, Sara battles a career-threatening affliction and helps keep the family music business afloat, all while looking for instrumental evidence to put the murderer behind bars.

Tune in for a good book

I really enjoyed this book, it kept me hooked and guessing all the way through until the last page. I liked the characters from the grump old granddad who says what he wants, to the mother desperate to see her daughter happy, all were written so well I am pretty sure everybody knows at least one of these characters in life. The unusual career for the main character Sara was interesting and the author obviously put a lot of thought into her characters and how she could spend so much time investigating the murder. I had never heard of dystonia (and in fact looked it up) but the fact that Sara is still a strong and capable woman despite having it made her very real. The mystery was good and took you off in lots of different directions, I spent most of the book wondering who she should be trusting and which man she would end up with. An all round good book and I hope there is another book in the series to come because I would like to spend more time with this characters as they investigate.
Sara is home to help plan her grandfather surprise birthday party, look after a friends house and cat sit but more importantly rest up her hand because if she doesn't she might lose the job she loves. Plagued with mussel cramps in her hand might stop her playing the oboe but it won't stop her finding a killer. After nearly getting killed in a car accident on the way back to her home town Sara is surprised to find her friends house unlocked and trashed. The bigger surprise is when she finds her friend dead in her bedroom. Did somebody knowing the house was empty come to rob it? With her mobile also dead after the long drive she rushes next door for help but instead finds more questions in the form of the mysterious neighbour, can she trust him after the way he acted when they nearly crashed? When her phone recharges she gets a message from the dead. Her friend warns her not to come and not let them get, what? If seems the neighbour wasn't the only one to be keeping secrets but was her friends secret what got her killed? The police can't find her ex fiancee does Sara really expect them to find a killer? And what were they looking for in the house? Sara might just have to find the killer herself before they find her.
I liked the narrator and sticking with the theme of music she was a melody for the ears.
