The narration was superbly done.
It does tend to fall off in the middle it is well worth sticking with.
Characterisation is developed through the books and adds to what went before, though as I said it is not necessary to have read/listened to the previous books first.
Overall a good way to spend some time.

Tom Hawkins is a plausible and entertaining central character in this series, which gets better and better. There's a strong sense of English life in the early 1700s, with characters and language that's rich and diverse. I particularly like the way each story is woven around historical fact. There's tension, humour, murderm mystery and a large slice of social life.What did you like best about this story?
Tom is faced with a very different scenario this time. Tasked by the Queen, he has to leave London and travel to Yorkshire to retrieve a ledger involved with South Sea Bubble collapse. It's a fascinating journey with characters who seem to live.What does Joseph Kloska bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?
A great sense of pace and drama and good voices.Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I just keep rooting for things to work out and there's plenty of drama in this tale to draw the listener in emotionally.Any additional comments?
Works well as a stand alone, but better if you read the first two books as the back story to a number of characters is developing with each tale. A genuinely gripping series.Another winner
