About this listen

What's an editor to do with so many demands? Do you deal with the morning's pile of manuscript submissions first? Or do you concentrate on your ex-lover, whose business partner has just been found dead in their art gallery, slumped over his desk with a gun in his hand?

It's another day at Timmins & Ross publishing house, but when sharp-tongued editor Samantha Clair's CID boyfriend is brought in to investigate Frank Compton's death, her loyalties become stretched. And when one of Aidan Merriam's artists is found dead in identical circumstances, Sam takes on the art world and the CID, armed with nothing more than her reliable weapons: satire, cynicism and a stock of irrelevant information culled from novels.

laugh out loud funny with an excellent plot. The narration was just right for the book. I will be buying more from this author

very funny good plot

The story is very good: witty, interesting and well written.

But the narrator is unfortunately yet another who feels obliged to act (and in this case seriously overact) the story rather than simply reading it. The narrator's over-excitement, over-emphasis, imperfect phrasing and constant running up and down the scale were such that I found myself quite unable to concentrate on the content of the story. About two-thirds of the way through I decided to give up. (The narrator's verbal tic of occasional - and therefore obviously unnecessary - shlurred 'Missh Moneypenny' s-es was another irritation.)

Now I've ordered the e-book instead, and what a relief it is to be able to finish the novel in peace!

Good story, annoying reader
