When unsolved crimes resurface, Detective Superintendent Roy Grace faces a possible copycat killing in Dead Like You. By award winning crime author Peter James, read by Daniel Weyman (Silent Witness, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power).

The Metropole Hotel, Brighton. After a heady New Year's Eve ball, a woman is attacked as she returns to her room. A week later, another woman is assaulted. Both victims' shoes are taken by the offender . . .

Roy Grace soon realizes that these new cases bear remarkable similarities to an unsolved series of crimes in the city back in 1997. Dubbed 'Shoe Man', the perpetrator was believed to have attacked five women before murdering his sixth victim and vanishing. Could this be a copycat, or has Shoe Man resurfaced?

When more women are assaulted, Grace and his team find themselves in a desperate race against the clock to identify and save the life of the new sixth victim . . .

Although the Roy Grace novels can be read in any order, Dead Like You is the sixth gripping title in the bestselling series. Enjoy more of the Brighton detective’s investigations with Dead Man's Grip and Not Dead Yet.

Eleştirmen yorumları

Peter James has penetrated the inner workings of police procedures, and the inner thoughts and attitudes of real detectives, as no English crime writer before him. His hero, Roy Grace, may not be the most lively cop, nor the most damaged by drink, weight or misery, but he's one of the most believable
Peter James is one of the best crime writers in the business (Karin Slaughter, author of the Will Trent series)
James just gets better and better and deserves the success he has achieved with this first-class series
Meticulous research gives his prose great authenticity . . . James manages to add enough surprises and drama that by the end you’re rooting for the police and really don’t know if they will finally get their men

This is hands down the best Grace book I have listened to. The story engaged me so much. The narrator was perfect, and very gripping in the more suspenseful moments.

Not my favourite Grace because it’s too gory and graphic in its depiction of serial sexual assaults. Not much on the Sandy saga in this episode either…

Bit too graphic!

To be honest, there were parts of this I could have done without listening to. The unpleasantness of the lives of the rapists/murderer and their follow on behaviour is pretty disturbing. However, as with all the Grace books so far, the way the links appear and characters progress, makes the listen compelling

Unpleasantly compelling

Peter James delivers another gripping installment in the Roy Grace series with Dead Like You. The plot is expertly crafted, blending chilling suspense with sharp police procedural detail. What truly elevates this audiobook, however, is Daniel Weyman’s exceptional narration. His voice brings each character to life with clarity and nuance, perfectly capturing the tension and emotional depth of the story. Weyman’s pacing and tone make it impossible to pause—an absolute masterclass in audiobook narration. A must-listen for crime thriller fans.

Another masterpiece!

Great narration once again and excellent descriptions of Brighton and the surrounding area. I also like the character of Grace and the very credible explanations of how policing is done. However, I find James’ description of female characters less successful. The women swerve between whiny or subjugated. He is not good at the female narrative voice either, and I found the overt descriptions of rape gratuitous and formulaic with a variation of the same scene over and over. Frankly, I got a bit bored.
