Detective Superintendent Roy Grace exposes the dark side of internet dating in the intriguing crime novel Dead at First Sight, by award winning author Peter James.

A man waits at a London airport for the love of his life to arrive. Across the Atlantic, a retired cop waits in a bar in Florida’s Key West for his first date with the lady who is his soulmate. The two men are about to discover they’ve been scammed out of almost every penny they have in the world – and that neither women exist.

In the same week, Roy Grace is called to investigate the suicide of a woman in Brighton, that is clearly not what it seems. As his investigations continue, a handsome motivational speaker comes forward. He’s discovered his identity is being used to scam eleven different women online. The first he knew of it was a phone call from one of them saying, ‘You don’t know me, but I thought I knew you’.

That woman is now dead.

Roy Grace realizes he is looking at the tip of an iceberg. Can he bring down the murderous global empire built on clever, cruel internet scams?

Although the Roy Grace novels can be read in any order, Dead at First Sight is the fifteenth title in the bestselling series. Discover more of the Brighton detective’s investigations with Find Them Dead and Left You Dead.

Now a major ITV series, Grace, starring John Simm.

Peter James has penetrated the inner workings of police procedures, and the inner thoughts and attitudes of real detectives, as no English crime writer before him. His hero, Roy Grace, may not be the most lively cop, nor the most damaged by drink, weight or misery, but he’s one of the most believable
Peter James is one of the best crime writers in the business (Karin Slaughter, author of the Will Trent series)
James just gets better and better and deserves the success he has achieved with this first-class series
Meticulous research gives his prose great authenticity . . . James manages to add enough surprises and drama that by the end you’re rooting for the police and really don’t know if they will finally get their men
No one can deny James’s success as a crime novelist . . . The Grace stories almost always go to the top of the bestseller lists, not least because they are supremely well-told. James writes meticulously researched police procedurals, so informed that you can smell the canteen coffee . . . enthralling
In my thirty four years of policing, never have I come across a writer who so accurately depicts “The Job” (Detective Investigator Pat Lanigan, Office of the District Attorney, NYPD)
A full-throated exposé
The action is fast and furious, but, as in all novels in this series, it’s held together by the unflappable character of Superintendent Grace . . . Not to be missed

Having read all of the Roy Grace detective books I can highly recommend them. Peter James makes Roy come to life.

My favourite detective series

Roy Grace investigates the world of internet dating scams, and catfishing, in this 15th book in the series. Peter James has obviously done meticulous research on the subject and it was interesting to see how the police investigate cyber-crimes, and I became completely immersed as I listened. I had never heard of Sakawa Boys, and they terrified me (even looked them up on good old Google).

I also enjoy reading about Grace's private life with wife, Cleo, and his children (including devil-child, Bruno!)

Internet Dating Scams

I enjoyed this latest instalment of Roy Grace books, despite reading the less than positive reviews. I wanted to listen and make up my own mind up. I agree a little in that it did drag a little in the middle, but on whole it was a good plot and something so easily could, and probably does happen in today's cyber world. Well done Mr James, a good addition to the Roy Grace stable.

A scary look into the cyber world of crime.

Another slice of Detective Superintendent Roy Grace and his colleagues in Sussex's Major Crime directorate. This time he's investigating a huge worldwide romance fraud ring.

Punchy and brilliant. The narrator was top notch too.
