'One of the best British crime writers' – Lee Child

A shocking reveal threatens to unravel Detective Superintendent Roy Grace’s happy new life . . .

Grace is newly married, having moved to a country cottage with Cleo and their baby son. But his first, long-missing wife, now found, has left Grace a surprise greater than he could have imagined.

Yet the police need Grace at work: an escaped murderer who left a bullet in him is back and a Black Widow is leaving an international trail of corpses after – in every sense – bleeding them dry. Now, she’s come to Brighton for her next rich target . . .

Love You Dead is a race-against-time instalment of the award-winning Grace series by Peter James, now a major ITV show starting John Simm. Don't miss the latest pulse-pounding instalment, One Of Us Is Dead.

No one can deny James's success as a crime novelist . . . The Grace stories almost always go to the top of the bestseller lists, not least because they are supremely well-told. James writes meticulously researched police procedurals, so informed that you can smell the canteen coffee . . . enthralling
Peter James has penetrated the inner workings of police procedures, and the inner thoughts and attitudes of real detectives, as no English crime writer before him. His hero, Roy Grace, may not be the most lively cop, nor the most damaged by drink, weight or misery, but he's one of the most believable

I’ve read/listened to Peter James’ entire series featuring detective Roy Grace and am amazed how the author keeps coming up new scenarios. The present book has one of the most imaginatively plotted: involving snakes, spiders and scorpions that will give some listeners nightmares. A rapacious young widow preys on elderly, rich men and who, once hooked, she murders in outlandish ways. One has to suspend belief that the men would be so gullible, the murders so elaborately contrived, and the coincidences as far-fetched, but this is fiction and it certainly kept me listening eager to find out what she got up to next.

Two criminals on the run from previous novels re-appear and tracking them down is woven into the main story. Those who have followed the series will also know that there is a back-story of Grace’s first wife, Sandy, who disappeared over 10 years earlier. She reappeared in the previous novel and there is a certain resolution in this book, but there will obviously be further ramifications revealed in future novels.

The narrator is excellent and a fine mimic of different accents, ages and genders to bring to life the larger than life characters inhabiting the story.

Inventive plotting that kept me gripped
