The Noble Quran, literally meaning "the recitation", also romanized Qur'an or Koran, is the central religious text of Islam, which Muslims believe to be a revelation from Allah SWT (God). It is widely regarded as the finest work in classical Arabic literature. The Quran is divided into chapters (surah in Arabic), which are then divided into verses (ayah). The Noble Quran assumes familiarity with major narratives recounted in the biblical scriptures. It summarizes some, dwells at length on others, and, in some cases, presents alternative accounts and interpretations of events.

Surat al-Fatihah (Arabic: سُورَةُ الْفَاتِحَة ) is the first chapter (surah) of the Quran. Its seven verses (ayat) are a prayer for the guidance, lordship and mercy of God. This chapter has an essential role in Islamic prayer (salāt). The primary literal meaning of the expression "al-Fātiḥah" is "The Opener", which could refer to this Surah being "the opener of the Book" (Fātiḥat al-kitāb), to its being the first Surah recited in full in every prayer cycle (rak'ah), or to the manner in which it serves as an opening for many functions in everyday Islamic life.

هذا أوّل كتابٍ أُفرد للمرأة في حياة "طه حسين" وأدبه. فبرغم ما عرف عنه من أنّه كان نصير المرأة والدّاعي قولاً وفعلاً إلى تعليمها، إلّا أنّنا لا نجد سوى بحثٍ يتيمٍ هنا أو مقالٍ صحفيٍّ هناك عن علاقة "طه حسين بالمرأة". تتبّعتُ حضور المرأة في حياته سواءً أكان حضوراً طاغياً مثل زوجته سوزان، أم حضوراً خافتاً مثل أمّه وابنته، وعرضتُ لنساءٍ كان لهنّ تماسٌّ معه مثل حبّه الأول وتلميذته وحتى اللواتي اختلفن معه. واستقصيتُ النماذجَ النسوية التي وردت في أدبه من نساءٍ خاضعاتٍ ضعيفاتٍ إلى نساءٍ متعلّماتٍ متحدّيات، ومن مشرقيّاتٍ مستسلماتٍ لأقدارهنّ إلى أوروبيّاتٍ متحرّرات متحضّرات، في صوَرٍ متعدّدة الجوانب للمرأة عند "طه حسين"، عساها تعطي فكرةً لا أزعمها شاملةً، ولكنها كافيةٌ لتوضيح دور المرأة في حياته وانعكاس هذا الدّور على أدبه.
