A young couple go on holiday to a remote cottage on the Ring of Kerry. On the second night they are awakened apparently by an Irish Tramp, who turns out to be a travelling storyteller or Seanachai (Shawn-ah-key), and it is soon clear that he is a singular figure, perhaps even a ghost.

This is a ghost story for grandchildren. Suitable for ages 6 to 90 (after which age it may be a bit too scary). It is set in an old English village with a castle and features four early teen children staying in an old house of their grandparents. It is funny, sad, exciting, and based on true events (sort of).

Four children are tasked by the fairies to restore harmony and peace to the troubled underworld. They meet gods, angels, and even King Arthur. Travelling in time and eating ice cream from a devilish little man, they are guided by a clever hare and a famous archaeologist.
