Tessa's life is perfect. She has everything a woman could want: a good job, a family that supports her, and a boyfriend who only ever tries to make her happy. But somehow, even when she has all these things, she feels like her life is empty. When she lies to Raymond to escape her cut-and-paste life, she meets Beth, a whirlwind of a woman that takes her breath away.

Since the day that Tessa met Beth, it feels like she's been torn. Torn between the love for a man and the love for a woman, torn between her religion and her beliefs, torn between Raymond and Beth. Just as Tessa finally gathers the courage to stand up for herself and confesses to her sexual orientation, things go wrong. She kisses Raymond and Beth leaves her. Tessa doesn't know where she stands with anyone in her life anymore.

Tessa knows that she doesn't just like men, but she's not sure if she's just into women either. She loves Beth, but she still doesn't want to commit to a relationship with her and call herself a lesbian. Besides, she's still friends with Raymond and the thought of him finding out and being disappointed in her is one of the things holding her back.

Tessa still can't decide between her two lives. Her past is begging for her to come back. Her future is terrifying, and Tessa is in the middle, unsure about which to choose. Throw a stranger in the mix and things just get complicated. When she doesn't make a decision Beth feels she waited long enough and leaves. Tessa is heartbroken but Beth has had enough.

Tessa wants Beth back but when she goes out to get her she realizes it's too little too late. Beth has found someone else - an ex of her own - and it's hard to know if it is real or if it's just to spite Tess. Raymond has a girlfriend now, too, and suddenly Tessa realizes that she's completely alone. It's the one thing she's feared all her life, and it's happening. Her worst nightmare is coming true.
