Der fünfzehnjährige Kellen steht kurz vor seiner Magierprüfung. Es gibt nur ein Problem: Seine Magie schwindet! Für Kellen kein Grund aufzugeben. Während seine Mitschüler mit Atem, Sand oder Eisen zaubern, befreit er sich dank seines scharfen Verstandes aus jeder noch so brenzligen Situation. Als er dennoch in große Gefahr gerät, rettet ihm eine mysteriöse Fremde das Leben. Ferius Parfax bewirkt mit Spielkarten, was sonst nur wahre Magie vermag.
