Summary

Would you - could you? - uphold the law at the cost of those you love?

Falcio val Mond, First Cantor of the Greatcoats, is on the brink of fulfilling his dead King's dream: Aline is about to take the throne and restore the rule of law once and for all. But for the Greatcoats, nothing is ever that simple.

In neighbouring Avares, an enigmatic new warlord is uniting the barbarian armies, and, even worse, he is rumoured to have a new ally: Falcio's old nemesis Trin. With the armies of Avares at her back, she'll be unstoppable.

Falcio, Kest and Brasti go racing north to stop her, but in those cold, treacherous climes they discover something altogether different - and far more dangerous: a new player plans to take the throne of Tristia, and the Greatcoats, for all their determination and skill, may not be able to stop him.

Enjoyed all four books

I really enjoyed these books. Not quite Brandon Sanderson or Tad Williams but almost. Kept me listening when ever possible. Loved the humour and a great narrator.

Absolutely amazing

I'd never heard of these books or the author before stumbling accords them on Audible. I'd been on the lookout for new books after exhausting all books by Brendan Sanderson, Robin Hobb, Brent Weeks, Jim Butcher, Joe Abercrombie, Brian McClellan, and as many other fantasy stories as I could get my hands on.

So when I picked up these books, I was hoping for the next series to hold my attention over the course of many weeks, and I particularly enjoyed the story of the Greatcoats, and their ode to the swashbuckling greats.

I look forward to reading more by Sebastian de Castell :).

An Immersive experience not to be missed

Fantasy is not the genre I turn to often. I generally prefer sci-fi, thrillers and historical fiction. The Greatcoats series might just provide the inducement to put fantasy at the top of my go-to list.
More swashes are buckled by the protagonists than by Dumas' musketeers. There is tragedy, romance, camaraderie, loyalty and treachery in spades. Joe Jameson's narration is good enough for you to seek out more books he narrated, with the author relegated to a secondary consideration!. In short, if you want to be immersed in another world which has magic ( but not too much of the supernatural kind) great characters and pretty much everything else you could want in a novel or audiobook, then I could not recommend any series more vociferously than "The Greatcoats". Of course you MUST start with the first in the series and not this ,which is the fourth!

Great story. Horrible recording

The story is amazing like the others and a great ending to the series. But seriously Audible, have your editors actually listen to the recordings before signing them off. There were massive gaps in the text, ar one point it sounded like several pages had been skipped.

simply superb!!!

i have loved everything about the Greatcoats. the narration, the characters and the twisting story that really captivated me.

this last book made me laugh and it made me cry.

Cry for the friendship, cry as a father and cry because it ended. sad sone may think but this is quite possibly my favourite book series to date.

highly recommend 👌

absolutely amazing

Read the other 3 in the series and listened to this one and makes me wish I listened to all 4. Only book series I've ever finished and I loved it , Brasti, Kest and Falcio are possibly my favourite trio in fiction and reading/listening to their journey was a pleasure. Anyone who sees this and is not sure please give it a try, it will definitely be worth it to any fan of plot twists, fun, emotional highs and lows and most of all Brasti Goodbow

Best of the bunch

A satisfying end to a great saga. A simpler story than the previous three books but all the better for it.
