The Book of Exodus is the key beginning to the foundations of Israelite and later Jewish Faith. It’s contents and particular plot are designed to narrate (1) not just the origins of this people's faith, but (2) the way it is to be lived by readers and believers in ages to come. First Talk - We will explore the plot and the literary artistry of the Book as a single message for the reader and how the ancient "story" becomes a model for the community of faith.

This presentation teaches us about the mystery of suffering and shows how believers have been consoled and challenged by Job. The answer to why suffering cannot be grasped by our finite minds but the contemplation of the grandeur and beauty of the natural world builds a sense of trust in the Creator.

This analysis of Exodus and the Passover meal gives the listener a deeper appreciation of the Hebrew Scriptures as capturing the mystery of God interacting with humanity. The blessing of the cups, the unleavened bread, the telling of the Exodus story and the singing of the Hallel Psalms, all formed the basis for the meal that Jesus shared with his disciples.
