Most people know of hypnosis from entertainment; often in a negative context of being "hypnotized" to do things they would not do on their own. Lately hypnosis is being used in therapy with a much more positive connotation. Osho puts hypnosis in a different context, describing it as an art, and explains, in this talk mixed with his well-known humor, how hypnosis can benefit all of us. Here Osho responds to questions about whether enjoyment of music, women, sensory perceptions, and all kinds of "worldly things" can interfere with meditation. Religious conditioning certainly urges people to avoid the pleasures of the flesh, but what does Osho have to say about it?

The word Christ came into existence 300 years after Jesus; and out of the word Christ developed Christian and Christianity. While Friedrich Nietzsche stated that Christ was the last Christian, according to Osho, Jesus was not only the last Christian, but he was also the first Christian–the first and the last Christian, because in this world no individual is ever repeated.

There was a time when hypnosis was a recognized door towards meditation. In the Middle Ages hypnosis was condemned alongside witchcraft. That condemnation still lingers on. Osho speaks here about hypnosis as a very helpful tool to enter into meditation.

Vipassana sabse kimti dhyan hai. Iski vidhi hai, sirph baithkar shvas ko dekhte rahna. Yah pranayam nahi hai, shvas ki naisargik gati ko sakshibhav se dekhna hi vipassana hai. Is tarh dekht-dekhte hi chitt ke sare rog tirohit ho jate hai, sharir se sambandh tut jata hai. Ise aharnish kahi bhi kiya ja sakta hai.

On finding the “original man” within yourself, says Osho, you will find everything worth discovering. In these talks, Osho traces Zen from its early days with Bodhidharma in China through a succession of masters and poets. He tells anecdotes about the Zen masters, showing how their seemingly absurd statements and actions are actually devices to jolt people out of their spiritual sleep. And he asks you not to take his word for it, but to experience it for yourself - these talks are not about Zen, they are Zen.

In the past, science and meditation were considered poles apart, if not adversarial. In this talk, Osho shows science and meditation as complimentary, one the science of the outer, the other the science of the inner. The child needs your love, not your help. The child needs nourishment, support, but not your help. Every way to help a child is wrong. The very idea of helping is not right. The natural potential of the child is unknown, so there is no way to help him rightly to attain to his natural potential. You cannot help when the goal is unknown; all that you can do is not interfere. And in fact, in the name of help everybody is interfering with everybody else; and because the name is beautiful, nobody objects.

Osho responds to a question addressing the fear of intelligence: "The first and the most important part of intelligence is innocence. That's why you felt terrible - because in the world innocence and intelligence have been divided, not only divided but put diametrically opposite to each other. If intelligence remains innocent it is the most beautiful thing possible, but if it is against innocence then it is simply cunningness and nothing else; it is not intelligence."

“To be a buddha is not a difficult job. It is not some achievement for which you need a Nobel Prize”. Commenting on anecdotes and haikus by the Zen masters, Osho explains that being a buddha is the easiest thing in the world - it has already happened without you knowing. The empty heart, a place beyond thoughts and feelings, is within everyone. Meditation, and becoming truly thoughtless, is the key. Osho presents Zen as potent, alive, and relevant to the modern world.

Zen is not a theology, it is a unique phenomenon. Not easy to understand for a Western mind. Most religions exist around the concept of God. For Zen, the individual human is the goal - an end unto himself. So there is no concept of God in Zen. Certainly those who have been brought up as Christians, Muslims, Hindus, or Jews, cannot conceive of what sort of religion Zen is. If there is no God, then it becomes atheism. It is not; it is theism to the very core - but without God. This is the first fundamental to be understood. Let it sink deep within you, then things will become clear.

Shero-shaayari aur kavitaon se bharpoor ye pravachan panth ki saari kathinaayi ko door kar ek nayi subah ki tarah hamein abhibhoot kar lete hain. Osho kehte hain: 'Main to dekhta hoon ek naya suraj, ek nayi subah, ek naya manushyaa, ek nayi prithvi - vah roj nikharti aa rahi hai.
