See the world through Steve's eyes as he tries to balance the duties of leading a band of survivors while caring for a young, Hispanic orphan girl.

Most people faced with the zombie apocalypse are simply trying to survive. Joel Landon is determined to live...by any means necessary. All he needs to do is surround himself with the right people who have the same mindset. Of course, they also have to understand that there are rules. No society can flourish without them. If you step out of line, the last words you hear will be, "I sentence you to the darkness." Could there be a fate worse than death by zombie?

With the global infrastructure gone, people are forced to do whatever it takes to survive...even the unthinkable. Steve faces his toughest decision yet as he tries to lead his people through one nightmare after another. Kevin risks everything to save one girl and finds himself in the middle of a military fight for power.

Several months have passed since the dead began to walk. The first winter has taken its toll in more ways than one as humanity continues to struggle to survive. Not every threat to humanity comes form the undead as so many have discovered man's ability to sink into depravity with the absence of law and order. Time and again survivors have fought, run, and regrouped. Yet, there seems to be no respite, and as winter draws on...things become more and more difficult to endure.

Evan has returned. After fighting his way back, he discovers that his former encampment has been overrun in a brutal attack. Unsure of what to do, he is eventually forced into action by an approaching herd of the undead numbering in the thousands. It is then that he suffers more stings of betrayal and once again encounters Don Evans.

Snoe Gainey has spent her life trying to carve out her own identity in a post-apocalyptic world where her birth mother and father are two of the most infamous - if not notorious - individuals of the time. Raised by her adoptive mothers, she has done all she can to find her way in an unforgiving world. The rise of a splinter faction that seeks to bring about a so-called New America, and led by an enemy from the past, has shattered everything that she knew and most everything that she thought she knew about herself.

It has been almost 20 years since the dead rose... Snoe Gainey has grown up in a world where the walking dead are simply a part of life. Raised by her adoptive mother, she has spent her entire life trying to distance herself from the legacy left by her mother. A name from the past rises from the ashes and sends Snoe on a journey where she will discover more about herself in a few weeks than she has during the first eighteen years of her life. Snoe discovers a dead world that leaves her with more questions while offering few answers.

Steve Hobart is just a regular guy, his world is tipped on its side as the dead began to walk. He slowly gathers a group of other survivors and, together, they brave the horrors of a Dead world. Every choice seems to yield as many consequences as it does rewards. He struggles with decisions made as well as opportunities lost as he finds himself in the unlikely role of leader. With a group that includes an Army doctor, a five-year-old Hispanic girl, a convicted murderer, and a teen girl who seems far better equipped to deal with the situation....

Everything hangs by the thinnest of threads. In a Dead world, nothing is certain and nobody is safe. Friends have fallen; some enemies have been defeated only to be replaced by yet another. As the first year of the zombie apocalypse ends and a new year begins, can a person hope that the coming of spring can be a starting point for re-birth? If not... then what is the point of trying to survive?

Winter has gone, but the world is no less inhospitable. The survivors of this first winter now face some of the darkest and most soul-wrenching choices thus far. From the outskirts of London to an island refuge in Oregon, small groups struggle to build a new life. Kevin recovers to a realization that shatters his dreams, yet he must stand up and take the role of leader - or die trying. His followers, now largely consisting of juvenile delinquents and society cast-offs, need him.

Samuel Todd is a regular guy: ...Failed husband... ...Loving father... ...Dutiful worker... ...Aspiring rockstar. He had no idea if anyone would care, or take the time, to read his daily blog entries about his late night observations. But what started as an open monologue of his day-to-day life became a running journal of the firsthand account detailing the rising of the dead and the downfall and degradation of mankind...

Another young, African-American man is shot and killed by local law enforcement. As rioters take to the streets in outrage, a group that has waited for this very moment moves and takes control, effectively shutting down an entire city. The demand is simple: "Give us what we have been promised for over a century...EQUALITY."
