Story
It was just a random mutation - one of a billion that happen in viruses every day. But this one was different. It exploded out of Somalia and spread across the oceans before anybody thought to look up from their cell phones to see what was going on. The infected breathed the virus into the air around them, spreading it through the cities faster than anyone thought possible. Hospitals were overwhelmed. Police lines crumbled. Quarantine sites disintegrated. Cities started to collapse.

The Apocalypse Crusade is not that book. You are not suddenly thrust into a world gone mad. Instead, you get front-row seats to how the sh-t went down. In real time you are witness to the agony and the horror…and the terrible stupidity that made it all possible.

Humanity has been torn asunder and brought to the edge of total annihilation in less than an hour. For those who died, it was a quick death, so fast that their brains didn't have time to process the pain signals from their nerves. Absurd Escapist Prepper Fiction. Not All Bad.
- By Mr. S. Grant on 16-05-18
Summary
Here it is in its entirety. You have 12 books and well over one million words of zombie goodness.
The dead walk!
Welcome to the world of T. W. Brown's DEAD saga. This raw, violent, and brutal world isn't populated with military supermen and women, or preppers that have been waiting for the human extinction event to arrive. This is a world of normal people...some good, some bad...and some pure evil.
This is a global look at the end of the world. Follow Steve and his group as you see the apocalypse unfold through a single person's eyes. With the geeks, you meet four young men who thought a zombie apocalypse would be cool...and quickly discover that it really isn't.
In the vignettes, you will get short glimpses of the state the world has fallen into. Some will only be a single offering. Others might stick around for a while, but rest assured...nobody is safe.
Welcome to T. W. Brown's DEAD world.

Eh... Trying Too Hard to Shock Listener
So I'm about 25 hours into the series and it's okay, but this book is trying WAY too hard to shock people with rape, child molestation, sexual slavery, and child violence. I could understand if they decided to have one twisted antagonist with a thing for sexually abusing kids, but it seems like 80% of the male population that survived the apocalypse decided to abandon their sense of right and wrong to become rapist, and about 65% of the same male population decided that they were attracted to girls (and sometimes boys) between 10 and 16 years old.
It just doesn't make any sense. Every time a new male character is introduced, I start counting down in my head for when sexual violence will come up, and and at the first mention of that, I start waiting for the story to start parading minors being victimized in front of the reader for shock value. The first couple times it was like, "Whoa..." but now? It's just like "Really? This again? Did every male start out into underage girls, or did the apocalypse make them suddenly awaken a new attraction?"
The sexual shock and awe is sadly more common so far than what a zombie book should have - zombie violence, blood splatters, and breaking undead heads. When it does come to that, about half the time the writing goes out of the way to point out that there's a child or someone under 18 in there. You'd think that the entire planet was populated with minors, and 30-50 year olds that were attracted to them.
There's an entire PoV devoted to sexual torture porn. The characters don't come in contact with any of the other groups. The whole purpose seems to express some twisted rape/sexual domination fantasy. It doesn't advance the narrative at all.
It's just... very tiresome after a while. I really hope moving forward that the Author will show that he'll come up with other tricks to tell a story because the way this is going will become very boring. I can only hear about so many different dudes using the ZA to rape women and children and create sex slave chain gangs before they all start sounding the same. It makes me wonder why the author is so obsessed with guys having sex with minors.

Zombie saga
Zombie books aren't really my thing but I'm fascinated by the post apocalyptic scenario and this series dealt with that very well. Taking the zombies out of the picture, the way that the survivors thrived, or otherwise, was believable. The author was not afraid to kill off characters, but the way the characters grew and developed was interesting. My only criticism is that several characters continued with their lives without any real grieving after the love of their lives was lost. Perhaps it was because life is cheap in the post apocalyptic world. I felt the ending was a little rushed but I'm sure it leaves the door open for a subsequent series.
I enjoyed this series and would recommend it.

Could it get any better?
Probably the best value I've enjoyed from Audible yet. the Authors ability to write such a compelling story, spanning many years, building on believable characters and allowing us to lose both heroes and villains without losing one iota of enthusiasm to learn what would unfold in an uncertain future for human kind.
As for our performer. I have to rate Andrew as the best reader I have so far had the pleasure of listening to on Audible. His ability to handle so many characters of both Genders and all ages , making each character instantly identifiable just by recognizing their unique voice helped this production become such a genuine joy to listen to.
I shall now be looking forward to finding more works by both Author and Narrator. Thank you both for this wonderful experience.

Very long winded and a bit annoying at times.
Ok so I have finally finished this mammoth of a book series and I have to say I wasn't massively impressive the writing style jumps from 1st person for one "story" to 3rd person for the rest and there are a lot. Brown loves the vignettes (short stories) and every now and then puts a chapter of them in which is extremely annoying as some may only cover a few minutes worth before cutting to the next characters and apart from a pause there is no definition. A thing that almost put me off the series is how much he writes about paedophilia and rape, especially in the beginning. I actually got concerned for the author at one point.
Another point that bothered me was how he would forget about events and people mostly in the Shorts but in some of the Main stories too. For example without spoilers an Enemy is heading their way, their leader know OUR leader by name. Why? Dunno never answered.
My last points are how the story from 1st person prospective changes person twice, with no reason for the second. Lastly if you dont like cliff hangers these books are NOT for you. EVERY. DAMN. CHAPTER. Cliff hanger after cliff hanger.

1st 2 books are good gets too "woke" after that
**warning spoilers**
1st 2 books start off great. The characters are likeable and you want them to stay alive. sometimes they do, sometimes they don't. I Iove the way the author weaves in story lines of people who don't make it.
By book 3 I didn't like any of the characters anymore.
The author basically writes himself in as the leader of a diverse, multicultural Utopia which he has to protect from an evil white supremacist who is stalking his group because of ... racism?
Another character stands in a street full of legless zombies smuggly scolding another about non PC terminology. I don't expect zombie stories to be completely realistic, but they need to be relatable and the character's motivations have to match their environment and situation.
if you're looking for a book series that more closely matches what you would expect Joe Everyman to go through emotionally and physically in a Zombie Apocalypse try the Mountain Man series

Good series. Sometimes too much detail.
I don't mean too much detail as in the story drags by because the detail itself is excruciating. I have read books like that. No this is just too much detail of the horrible things that happen in the series. I'm not normally the squeamish type but hearing about all the rape and other terrible acts was a bit much at times.

Great beginning, good middle. rough ending.
Strong start with great adult characters as the primary protagonists. Once the teenage Tahlia became one of the primary characters the enjoyment factor dropped dramatically. at that point I would have just quit reading but I was still into learning the fates of all the vignette characters, so I toughed it out to learn that. Tahlia as a teen, is so annoying. If I wanted to read from the viewpoint of an annoying teen, I'd be reading YA zombie material. But since I find the character building in YA stuff to be generally weak. I avoid it. Thus was truly disappointed when the last several books in this series was written largely from a character only slightly more intelligent than your average 12 year old. ugh. Great narration overall, but some characters sounded alike; not unusual when there are so many to voice.

The best value on audible and a great story
Being a senior living on a fixed income and having loads of free time , I listen to a lot of books. I usually only purchase long books to get my best value.
This book in 12 book set was great it was an excellant story that flowed perfectly along , you had time to get to know each character individually and each one had their own story. After all those hours I hated to see it end. I sure hope to read more T.W. Brown .

If you like complex, diverse characters listen to something else
Seriously. The only heroic, intelligent, and/or developed characters are white men. Not even in a subtle way; in an obnoxious, unrealistic way that you can’t ignore. Every non-white and non-male person is an offensive caricature. And I mean offensive. Not sure who is more to blame for the cringe inducing “Mexican accent” of one of the recurring characters, the author or the voice actor. The women are all hapless idiots awaiting a male savior. Yikes.

Amazing
I'm a big King and Poe fan . They're my literary heros . This is one of the most amazing and heartbreaking stories I have listened to since I've started listening to Audiobook . Normally I only listen to books I've read but went out on a limb with this collection. Currently half way through and I am amazed at what I've heard so far . If you're a Walking Dead fan ( as I am ) get ready for a whole new level of story telling.

Pleasantly surprised
Got it mainly because of the length. Didn’t expect too much, just needed some “chewing gum for the mind” during a long road trip. The story grabbed me a quarter in to the first book. I found myself listening even when not behind the wheel. Mostly it follows the regular zombie scenario but there are some unexpected, and, to my knowledge, never before explored new storylines. Yes, there are a lot of characters and it jumps around a lot, but it’s not hard to keep track of the main characters. The vignettes are not distracting, they add little interludes, a view of what’s happening elsewhere in the world.
This is a must read for the zombie aficionado. All the bad, all the good, all the gore and nauseating scenes one can expect from a good zombie story are present, with the addition of some unexpected twists that put a whole new view on the possibilities of a zombie infested world.

just wow!
I haven't been sure about audible. I used it as something to do while I was working on drawing or woodburning. it was a bit odd at first. but after a bit I heard characters. I heard it as the people were each speaking. the narrator is amazing. one of my girls is in speech and this is her category. it was amazing letting her hear this. she had something to aspire to. and another thing I didn't expect. my 12 yr old is autistic. she hates reading. total zombie lover. she didn't just get interested. she was excited and so happy when I allowed her to listen. her teachers allowed it as her reading project knowing how hard it is to engage her. that alone was worth keeping the subscription when my trial ended. thank you. I still have a ways to go. but both author and narrator caught the attention of a child I struggle to get engaged. very well done and totally worth it.
