Dante and Blays have a single hope of victory: the Spear of Stars, the long-lost weapon that may be capable of killing the lich. There's just one problem. Though they've learned the spear is real, they've also learned the nine parts of the weapon are guarded by the gods themselves. And they have no intention of handing over their prize. Alone in a strange realm, with no friends or allies, and a growing list of enemies, Dante and Blays' task looks doomed. Calon had hoped his troubles with the magistrate were over. Unfortunately for him, the newest member of his budding family isn't handling the transition well. When the promise for work, looks more like a subtle threat, Calon and his lovers have little choice but to hit the road once more. Only it's not just the magistrate that has an interest in the north. A visiting priest passes on a vaguely threatening job offer. One that seems twisted around the problems attracting the magistrate.
