Second in the Umbra saga, Birth of Shadows is the sequel to Encumbering Ashes, following the same character line up as they figure out the origin and mystery behind one of their own. The crew meets some new people along the way, including Jayson who lost his father to the very type of person whom he was helping. Nick's lost past puts him in the wrong place at the right time. Samuel's daughters passing leaves him with more questions than answers when an ominous drawing was left behind suggesting there are worst things than death.
