Story194
Out they came, away from natural predators, nesting in damp corners and in the tops of trees, crossbreeding with common cousins and laying thousands upon thousands of eggs. Then… the eggs hatched and an army of hungry caterpillars spread their tiny toxic threads on every breath of wind.’ The threads spell doom for humanity – half of it, at least. All around the world, men are dying in their sleep or turning into rage-fuelled killers. The world, as we know it, ends. However, humanity adapts and society moves on.

Lily is forced to flee her pristine London home to escape reporters who are hounding her because of accusations levelled against her husband. She hides away in a rundown cottage in a small Derbyshire village. She is deeply unhappy. She hates the countryside, the dirt, the smells and most of all the creepy woodland next to the cottage. Desperately lonely, Lily tries to befriend her neighbour Kathy, a naturalist and a recluse who the villagers think is unhinged. His character shaped by loss and guilt, Darcy will never permit a woman to possess his heart. But Miss Elizabeth Bennet — from just the sort of society he despises — and who despises him in return, fills his thoughts. As a moth to the flame, he cannot stay away. Elizabeth Bennet scorns the proud and arrogant Mr. Darcy. Admittedly, he is handsome; but like all of his kind, he thinks females below him; merely helpless creatures needing protection from themselves and all around them.

And they came to kill. We are the children of never-ending night. We are the dwellers of shadow. In the light of our enemy, we are dying. We were born in darkness. We must cast out the light. Story4
This short steampunky adventure with a flavour of thirties movie serials was inspired by a Twitter conversation the author had with singer Thea Gilmore in early 2013, and then by her song "Start As We Mean To Go On". As the story progressed, other Thea songs lent their titles easily to the remaining three episodes, and more song titles found their way into the text. The name "Moth Girl' came out of an anagram of Thea's name in fact Ratporchrico's opening phrase in this story is that very anagram.
