An elderly couple living in Victorian London struggle against despair as their small resources dwindle. When an eccentric and mysterious gentleman answers their advertisement for a lodger, they celebrate. But as women begin dying at the hands of "The Avenger", they start to suspect something too horrific for words.

As all London is gripped by the horrific series of murders committed on its fog-bound streets by the self-styled "Avenger", respectable retired servants Robert Bunting and his wife Ellen are on the brink of personal disaster, in the ruin of their business. But then - miraculously as it seems - they are saved when the enigmatic Mr. Sleuth turns up at the door of their lodging house looking for rooms...but Ellen soon begins to suspect that Mr. Sleuth may be the very man who holds the capital in terror.

Holmes is visited by Mrs. Merrilow, a landlady from South Brixton who has an unusual lodger who never shows her face. She saw it once accidentally and it was hideously mutilated.

Neil Munro (1863-1930) was a Scottish journalist, newspaper editor, author and literary critic who is now mainly known for his humorous short stories. The Student Lodger is the humorous tale of a Scottish couple who take on an English divinity student as a lodger. The trainee minister turns out rather livelier than his landlords had hoped....

Archibald Jordan contentedly resides in his native Islington, a perennial lodger in that neighborhood's many boarding houses. Upon his arrival with Watson, the woman, her face perpetually hidden by a heavy veil, tells them she knows she does not have long to live and wishes to finally reveal what really happened on that awful day.

The world’s most famous sleuth returns in The New Adventures of Sherlock Holmes - a radio show which aired in the USA from 1939-1950, most famously starring Basil Rathbone as Sherlock and Nigel Bruce as Dr. Watson. In later seasons, Holmes was played by Tom Conway and John Stanley, and Watson was played by Alfred Shirley. Episodes from 1939 through 1943 were written or adapted by Edith Meiser from the books of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.
