Zehn Frauen erzählen Geschichten, an fünf Tagen, jede jeweils eine. Dazu entwirft Basile eine Rahmenhandlung ähnlich dem Vorbild Decamerone von Giovanni Boccaccio. Die Rahmenhandlung leitet jeweils zwischen den einzelnen Erzählungen kurz über, die sonst für sich stehen und unabhängig rezipiert wurden.
