Through its 211 interwoven poems, this double-tiered recursive crown of sonnets takes the listener on an epic journey to the heart of mankind’s would-be nemesis - herself - and back again. Does her destiny await in the unexplored depths of the cosmos, or in a toxic wasteland of her own making? Does she have the will to shape her own future, or is she a slave to her myopic wants and impulses?

Requiem & Rebirth is an anthology and debut book from author/illustrator Skyler Rose (@chronicmaverick). We follow Skyler as they recall and attempt to come to terms with the memory of their abusive relationship and past traumas. This collection is a testament to laying the past to rest through rebirth and self-recovery, with the absolute belief that self-worth can weather any storm or self-love drought we go through along the way.

I wrote these poems incrementally, but collated, edited, and recorded them collectively. A process that was at first therapeutic and then brutally revealing. A lot of the pieces touch upon regret, lost possibilities, and missed opportunities born of trauma, neglect, mental illness, and fear, as well as the desperation that comes when you find yourself searching for hope inside of darkness.
