Hear a rare recording from 1939 of Charles A. Lindbergh speaking out against American involvement in Foreign Wars. He states that the Americans should not be asked to fight in foreign countries, but to focus on defense of the United States. Among other things, Lindbergh says: "The doctrine that we must enter the wars of Europe, in order to defend America, will be fatal to our Nation, if we follow it. When men are called upon to fight, and to die, for their country, there must not be even the remotest question of foreign influence involved."

As a 25-year old US Air Mail pilot, Charles Lindbergh emerged from virtual obscurity to instantaneous world fame as the result of his Ortieg Prize-winning solo nonstop flight on May 20 and 21, 1927. The trip spanned the distance from Roosevelt Field in Garden City on New York's Long Island to Le Bourget Field in Paris, France—a distance of nearly 3,000 statue miles.

Yuri Bezmenov (1939-January 5, 1993), was a Soviet journalist for RIA Novosti and a former KGB informant who defected to Canada. After being assigned to a station in India, Bezmenov eventually grew to love the people and the culture of India. At the same time, he began to resent the KGB-sanctioned repression of intellectuals who dissented from Moscow's policies and he decided to defect to the West. Bezmenov is best remembered for his anti-communist lectures and books published in the 1980s under the alias of Tomas David Schuman.

Marcus Garvey (August 17, 1887-June 10, 1940) was a charismatic Jamaican-born political leader, publisher, journalist, entrepreneur, and orator. He organized the Universal Negro Improvement Association and African Communities League (UNIA-ACL) and acted as its president-general. In 1916, he moved to New York City where his prominence grew. By 1919, he was considered to be the "Black Moses", and he claimed a following of over 2 million people. This recording is from a speech he gave in the 1920s.

On November 22, 1963, President John F. Kennedy made a speech to the Fort Worth, Texas, Chamber of Commerce; he was assassinated later that afternoon. Kennedy had traveled to the state to unite Texas Democrats where party leaders were feuding and extremists were contributing to political tensions. Kennedy knew an intra-party feud in Texas could jeopardize his chances of carrying the state for his 1964 re-election campaign.

Helen Keller was born on June 27, 1880, in Tuscumbia, Alabama. Though born with the ability to see and hear, at 19 months-old she contracted an acute illness that left her both deaf and blind. Eventually, 20-year-old Anne Sullivan, herself visually impaired, became Keller's speech instructor. It was the beginning of a 49-year-long relationship during which Sullivan evolved into Keller's governess and eventually her companion.

Herbert Louis Samuel was a British politician who was the Liberal Party leader from 1931 to 1935. He was the first practicing Jew to serve as a Cabinet minister and to become the leader of a major British political party. In January 1915, Samuel circulated a memorandum, "The Future of Palestine", to his cabinet colleagues, suggesting that Britain should conquer Palestine in order to protect the Suez Canal against foreign powers and for Palestine to become a home for the Jewish people. In this recording, Samuel discusses the necessity for a permanent Jewish state in Palestine.

In these two rare recordings of Robert Baden-Powell (February 22, 1857-January 8, 1941), founder and first Chief Scout of The Boy Scouts Association and founder of the Girl Guides, he extols the virtues of the Scout movement and that Scout duties are working for God and the King, helping other people, and keeping Scout law.

Jim Garrison (1921-1992) was the District Attorney of Orleans Parish, Louisiana, from 1962 to 1973. He is best known for his investigations into the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. Garrison was able to subpoena the Zapruder film from Life magazine. As a result, the American public was able to see the film for the first time. Garrison made the case that the Kennedy assassination was too complex to be carried out by Oswald alone. Later, he was played by Kevin Costner in Oliver Stone's 1991 feature film, JFK.

Wernher von Braun ( March 23, 1912 - June 16, 1977) was a German aerospace engineer and space architect. He was the leading figure in the development of rocket technology in Nazi Germany and a pioneer of space technology and science in the United States. After World War II, von Braun was secretly moved to the US, along with roughly 1,600 other German scientists, engineers, and technicians, as part of Operation Paperclip.

Robert George Seale (born October 22, 1936) is an African American revolutionary, political activist and author. Seale is widely known for co-founding the Marxist-Leninist and black power political organization the Black Panther Party (originally called the Black Panther Party for Self-Defense) with fellow activist Huey P. Newton to monitor police activities and challenge police brutality in black communities, first in Oakland, California, and later in cities throughout the United States.

Amelia Mary Earhart, an American aviation pioneer and author, was born on July 24, 1897. Earhart was the first female aviator to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean. She set numerous other aviation records, wrote best-selling books about her flying experiences, and was instrumental in the formation of The Ninety-Nines, an organization for female pilots. Henry Cabot Lodge (May 12, 1850-November 9, 1924) was an American Republican politician, historian, and statesman from Massachusetts. He served in the United States Senate from 1893 to 1924 and is best known for his positions on foreign policy. The following recording documents his successful crusade against Woodrow Wilson's Treaty of Versailles and ensured that the United States never joined the League of Nations and his reservations against that treaty influenced the structure of the modern United Nations.

The Checkers speech was made on September 23, 1952, by Sen. Richard Nixon in Los Angeles, six weeks before the 1952 U.S. presidential election, in which he was the Republican nominee for Vice President. Nixon had been accused of improprieties relating to a fund established by his backers to reimburse him for his political expenses. His place was in doubt on the Republican ticket, so he flew to L.A. and delivered an address in which he defended himself, attacked his opponents, and urged the audience to contact the Republican National Committee to tell it whether he should remain on the ticket.

William Howard Taft (September 15, 1857-March 8, 1930), born in Cincinnati, Ohio, served as Secretary of War under President Theodore Roosevelt, then was elected on the Republican ticket as the 27th president of the United States from 1909 to 1913, and, later, named the tenth chief justice of the United States from 1921 to 1930.
