Kyana Turner has just found out the family secret—she’s a witch! This means lessons every Saturday at Park Row Magick Academy, the magic school hidden in the back of her local beauty shop. Learning spells, charms, and potion recipes, and getting a wand made to match her hair's curl pattern, Kyana feels like she's a part of something really special. The hardest part will be keeping her magic a secret from non-Magick folks, including her BFF, Nae.

The new Park Row Magic Academy construction is underway, and Kyana is searching for magic activities to fill the school break. When she visits the building for supplies, she's grabbed by an Available spirit! Even though she's able to slip its grasp, something is wrong—she can't stop crying and laughing uncontrollably. Is she cursed? Then Ashley shares an invitation to a camp for magical learning. Ash thinks that whatever curse is messing with Kyana, Dr. Minzy, a famous teacher there, will know how to fix it. But once they reach the secret camp site, the magical portal suddenly collapses!

The Portal in the Park is a modern day Siddhartha with an urban multicultural edge for a multitasking generation of young listeners ages 6 to 10. It is a musical fantasy adventure that takes its 11-year-old hero - hero and audience - into another dimension, a world where magical creatures introduce the boy to new awakenings of his body and mind.
