Mother Nature's fury now threatens the survivor colony in Bandon on the Oregon coast. Through this hellfire, a rescue party, led by Eric 'Fletch' Fletcher, sets out to reach friends trapped and dying near the erupting volcano. Years after the world was ravaged by the apocalyptic blight, the survivors in Bandon find themselves confronted by doubts about those they've encountered near their town, and also about their own leadership.

Eric "Fletch" Fletcher faces the impossibility of his friend Neil Moore sitting 10 feet from him in a dank cell. He's very much alive years after he'd watched him die. The explanation, validated by Neil's CIA past, is convincing enough for Fletch, but the man who has taken them prisoner wants more. Earl Perkins has dreams of power and has set his sights on the one place where resistance still flourishes. To conquer those who would stand in his way, he needs something he is certain either Fletch or Neil can provide: the secret location of a virus to be unleashed upon his adversaries.

With wars and natural disasters behind it, the Bandon survivor colony, just beginning to thrive in the wake of the apocalyptic worldwide blight, discovers an unidentified aircraft carrier anchored a hundred miles off the Oregon coast. After jamming the town's communications with the outside world, it is decided a mission must be sent to investigate the ship, and neutralize any threat. But what Eric Fletcher and others discover aboard the vessel is beyond anything they could have imagined. More than any danger they have faced so far, Fletch realizes that this enemy, with nothing to lose, threatens not only Bandon--but all who remain on the decimated planet. And whatever happens, after either a successful mission or a devastating failure, Bandon, and those who have called it home since the blight, will never be the same again.
