Armin Meiwes, "Kannibalen i Rotenburg" dömdes i januari 2004 till åtta och ett halvt års fängelse för dråp sedan han dödat och ätit upp en medmänniska. Han hade hittat sitt offer genom en kontaktannons på nätet som löd: "Young, well-built man who wants to be eaten". Och genom den hittade han Bernd Jürgen Brandes, en 40-årig dataingenjör från Berlin som gick med på att bli mördad och uppäten. Åklagarsidan hade yrkat på ett livstidsstraff för mord, men domstolen i Kassel fäste avsikt vid att offret hade samtyckt till att dödas och valde därför den mildare formen, dråp.
