Trotz dieser einschränkenden Perspektive sind und bleiben die Gespräche ein unverzichtbares Dokument für das Verstehen des wohl bedeutendsten deutschen Denkers und Dichters. Übrigens: Heinrich Heine verspottete Eckermann als "Goethes Papagei", während Friedrich Nietzsche die "Gespräche" als bestes Buch des 19. Jahrhunderts bezeichnete.
