The Adventures of Pinocchio also simply known as Pinocchio, is a novel for children by Italian author Carlo Collodi, written in Pescia. It is about the mischievous adventures of an animated marionette named Pinocchio and his father, a poor woodcarver named Geppetto.It was originally published in a serial form as The Story of a Puppet (Italian: La storia di un burattino) in the Giornale per i bambini, one of the earliest Italian weekly magazines for children, starting from 7 July 1881.

Entrò in bottega un vecchietto tutto arzillo, il quale aveva nome Geppetto; ma i ragazzi del vicinato, quando lo volevano far montare su tutte le furie, lo chiamavano col soprannome di Polendina, a motivo della sua parrucca gialla, che somigliava moltissimo alla polendina di granturco.

Der Tischler Gepetto entdeckt ein lustiges Stück Holz und fängt gleich an mit seiner Arbeit. Und da er sich so sehr einen Jungen wünscht, wird aus dem Stück Holz eine Puppe mit einer langen Nase. Wie durch ein Wunder fängt die Puppe an zu sprechen. Wie ihr euch denken könnt, ist das der Beginn einer spannenden Geschichte mit vielen Gefahren.

"Kleines Bübchen, freches Püppchen, du wolltest doch zur Schule gehen - was ist geschehen"? Eigentlich ist das der Roman "Pinocchio" in einer Zeile - die weltberühmte Geschichte der Holzpuppe, die sprechen und laufen kann. Leider ist Pinocchio nicht besonders gehorsam; anstatt zur Schule zu gehen, gerät er in zahlreiche Abenteuer. Ob sich sein Wunsch, ein echter Junge zu werden, jemals erfüllen wird? Ein wunderbares Märchen.
