Fenella meets a group of suspects that includes a wealthy couple, an older man and his much younger wife, and a retired and incredibly nosy woman.

While they have identified the body in the boat, found in the harbor of the pretty little town just south of Malcesine, there are certain anomalies that they have discovered in the deceased’s own home. Strange things for which they can arrive at no credible explanation. So, they call in the famous consulting detective to sort it all out. But the question is, can she? Or is this going to be one occasion when Kim has bitten off more than she can chew?

Best friends, Suzie and Mary, are enjoying living together in Garber. They are settling into their new lives and are finalizing the renovations on the spectacular B & B on the beach. They find the perfect painting to decorate one of the rooms. It is painted by a local, young artist who committed suicide years earlier. But then they find something hidden in the frame that piques their curiosity and they want to find out its significance.

It’s the 1970s, and the “houseboat wars” erupt in Sausalito on the site of Marinship, the abandoned World War II shipyard. Hippies and squatters are living free and easy on houseboats in a ramshackle shantytown, and greedy developers are determined to evict them and build new docks to attract affluent residents.

Kim faces two cases in this gripping instalment. An escaped felon and a strange request from an olive-skinned beauty. She must wrestle simultaneously with both conundrums, and track down the convict while resolving the mystery of what exactly is inside the booty in the boathouse - and who put it there and why? There are the usual splashes of humour as Kim gets to grips with her tasks.
