Bérénice dépérit, et Egaeus se met à la percevoir comme un être abstrait. Il devient obsédé par les dents de sa cousine... Cette nouvelle d'horreur est une référence de la littérature du XIX siècle, publiée en 1835 dans le journal Southern Literary. Elle fait partie du recueil les "Nouvelles histoires extraordinaires", traduite en français par Charles Baudelaire.

"Berenice" by Edgar Allan Poe dates back to the 19th century and was considered shocking upon its publication.
