There is a time to weep and a time to mourn. For the CSV Lion of Judah, that time has not yet come. The war with the League of Sol ended in victory for the Terran Coalition. Major General David Cohen and his crew conclude their three-month goodwill cruise with one final FTL jump. But instead of returning home in a blaze of glory, the wormhole collapses and hurls them more than four million lightyears into the unknown.

Over the years, humans have grown used to their position within the empire, serving as soldiers and spacers for alien masters as well as building a place in the universe for themselves. But now, in the aftermath of a violent interstellar war that shattered the power of the Alphans, humanity has rediscovered its pride.

Humanity has won a great victory, liberating their homeworld from the alien Pashtali and convincing many of the alien great powers that Earth is much more than a vassal state of a decaying empire, easy meat for the first invader who comes along. But the war is far from over. The Pashtali are gathering their forces, closing down their border wars with smaller powers while the greater ones sit on the sidelines, readying their navy for a final confrontation with Earth. The end cannot be long delayed.

Five years ago, the human race became independent, as the Alphan Empire conceded it could no longer sustain its grip on Earth and withdrew, casting an unprepared humanity adrift on an interstellar sea of troubles. Since then, humanity has struggled mightily to secure its position in a galaxy full of hungry predators, many of whom see Earth as nothing more than a prize to be won. Now, one of the galaxy’s superpowers has set its sights on Earth, launching a covert campaign to weaken and isolate the human race before it moves in for the kill.

Earth has entered the Tarden Republic of Worlds. Humanity was been rescued from the brink of extinction and the world rejuvenated. It is a new Golden Age. But for how long and at what cost? Only a few could see the long game that the Tarden are playing, and it was one that wouldn't end well for mankind.

The age of exploration had been replaced by the age of war. The Tarden Republic lay fractured. The rebellion on Brakk had been brutally beaten down for a second time leaving the race near extinction. Ducis Iratus's assassination of most of the members of the Senex failed to cower the core worlds. As he fortifies the solar system against an attack from the Republic, a shadowy presence at the star closest to Earth grows in strength. With humanity refashioned as his personal slave army, Iratus above all dreams of conquest.
