About this listen

Five years ago, the human race became independent, as the Alphan Empire conceded it could no longer sustain its grip on Earth and withdrew, casting an unprepared humanity adrift on an interstellar sea of troubles.

Since then, humanity has struggled mightily to secure its position in a galaxy full of hungry predators, many of whom see Earth as nothing more than a prize to be won.

Now, one of the galaxy’s superpowers has set its sights on Earth, launching a covert campaign to weaken and isolate the human race before it moves in for the kill. As their plan comes into the open, and the scale of the threat becomes apparent, the human race finds itself caught between a war it cannot win and shameful submission to dangerously inhuman race.

If Earth loses the war, humanity’s short-lived independence will come to an end once again...

Really liked the story, the back story was very well done. A good listen to twice or more story. The politics of the withdrawal and independence of earth with earth still needing at least support interesting some parallels in own past

Great action

This book was a smooth read, I didn’t have to put too much effort to follow. Liked the story and the progression.

This sequel has a logical basis and a very human element to it. I really enjoyed the painting of the universe with the humans around other beings.

A very interesting sequel

It's Chris Nuttall's usual easy read, written in his characteristic style and I enjoyed it. BUT it is a bit too close, both in premise and detail to The Praxis (2002), ISBN 0-7434-2897-8Walter Jon Williams

Read The Praxis (2002), for comparison

The story gets boring. I'd guess that if it was a box set, it could work but as a stand alone book... It didn't work for me.

very well spoken .
