Good evening. Vermont. I'm Aaron Jolly. Folks, if you stepped outside today and thought spring had arrived early. I don't blame you. Forty six degrees and clear skies in late February. That's 16 degrees above normal. Soak up that memory, because what's coming next is going to feel personal. In the next 24 hours., A cold front is knifing through the state right now. and behind it? The atmosphere just falls off a cliff. We're talking a 30 degrees temperature crash overnight. By tomorrow morning. Southern Vermont bottoms out around 16 degrees. Central Vermont drops to 14. The Northeast Kingdom settles near 13. That's not a gentle cooldown. That's whiplash. Now here's where it gets interesting. A weak disturbance is riding along that front. Light snow develops after 5 A.M. Sunday, mainly across Southern Vermont. One to three inches could coat the roads by midday. Central Vermont might see a few flurries around 9 A.M., but not much sticks. The Kingdom? Stays dry. Classic Vermont. Three different days in one state. Sunday highs only scratch 20 degrees statewide. Then Sunday night is the real kicker. Clear skies, calm winds, fresh snow on the ground. That's a recipe for brutal radiational cooling. Lows plunge to minus 6 in the south, minus 5 in central Vermont. and minus 9 in the Kingdom. That's frostbite cold. Cover every inch of exposed skin. Monday brings sunshine but no warmth. Teens at best. Then Tuesday the pattern flips. Southerly flow pushes highs back into the 30s, with snow moving in by afternoon. Two to four inches possible by Wednesday morning. The back half of the week turns milder and wetter. Highs climb into the 40s with rain likely through Friday. The spring equinox is just 20 days out. Mud season lurks about five weeks away. but tonight? Winter's reminding us who still holds the keys. Charge your phone tonight. You'll want that weather app working when you see the thermometer tomorrow morning. That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow. This front triggers a dramatic temperature crash. You'll see temperatures drop 30 to 40 degrees by tonight. The sky turns partly sunny this afternoon. Winds shift from the southwest to the northwest. Expect gusts up to 25 miles an hour. Tonight brings a rush of Arctic air. Lows plunge into the teens across Southern Vermont and single digits up north. but the story isn't just the cold. It's the snow. A weak wave of low pressure rides the front. Snow develops after midnight. The best chance is across Southern Vermont. You could see a quick inch of accumulation by Sunday morning. Then Sunday night. The real punch lands. Lows plunge below zero statewide. The Kingdom bottoms out at minus 7. Southern Vermont hits minus 5. That's the kind of cold where your car door handle bites back. Monday stays locked in the deep freeze. Highs barely crack the teens to low 20s. Looking further out. Tuesday brings clouds and late day snow, maybe 1 to 3 inches. Wednesday clears with highs rebounding into the 40s.
