About this listen

Good afternoon. Vermont. I'm Aaron Jolly. Folks, step outside and you might think winter called in sick today. We're sitting at a balmy 42 degrees right now. That's a full 16 degrees above the February normal. but here's the catch. That warmth is leaving. A sharp cold front is sweeping through the state this afternoon. In the next 24 hours. This front triggers a dramatic temperature crash. You'll see temperatures drop 30 to 40 degrees by tonight. The sky turns partly sunny this afternoon. Winds shift from the southwest to the northwest. Expect gusts up to 25 miles an hour. Tonight brings a rush of Arctic air. Lows plunge into the teens across Southern Vermont and single digits up north. but the story isn't just the cold. It's the snow. A weak wave of low pressure rides the front. Snow develops after midnight. The best chance is across Southern Vermont. You could see a quick inch of accumulation by Sunday morning. Sunday turns much colder. Highs struggle to reach the low 20s. Any flurries end early. Then, the real deep freeze sets in Sunday night. Under clear skies, temperatures plummet. The Northeast Kingdom drops to minus 9. Central Vermont falls to minus 5. Even Southern Vermont sees lows near zero. Monday offers sunshine, but it stays bitter cold. Highs only reach the upper teens. Looking ahead to the week ahead, the pattern stays active. Tuesday brings another chance for snow. Moisture returns as temperatures climb into the 30s. We could see several inches of wet snow. By Thursday, the weather warms further. Rain becomes likely as highs approach the mid 40s. It looks like a wet end to the work week. For today, enjoy the sun while it lasts. The air quality is moderate. Just be ready for a sharp reality check by tonight. That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow. For the extended outlook, check the latest forecast as confidence improves. Stay safe, stay prepared. and enjoy the day.
