This sermon focuses on God giving Israel his law after rescuing them from slavery. The law is not a way to earn salvation, but a gracious gift that gives God’s people identity, forms them in holiness, teaches them true freedom, and points forward to Jesus, who fulfills the covenant and brings us back to God by his blood.

And the Egyptians will know that I am the Lord when I stretch out my hand against Egypt and bring the Israelites out of it.” (Exodus 7:5, NIV)

This sermon focuses on Exodus 6–14: God reveals himself as the true King by judging Egypt, defeating Pharaoh (as well as Egypts false gods), saving his people through the blood of the Passover lamb, and bringing them through the waters of the Red Sea into freedom. This directs us to Jesus as the true heir to the Kingdom and Passover Lamb who brings the greater Exodus, rescuing us from sin and death by his blood (and through the waters of baptism) so that we may belong to God.

But Moses said to God, “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?”
And God said, “I will be with you. (Exodus 3:11-12, NIV)

The God who revealed himself to Moses as the covenant LORD, the great “I AM,” sends insecure people into his rescuing mission, not by making them sufficient in themselves, but by promising his own presence — fulfilled in Jesus Christ, the true Rescuer, and poured out upon the church through the Holy Spirit at Pentecost.
