    In this episode, I'm talking about something that changed everything in my own recovery from health anxiety: understanding that the places and situations we fear aren't usually the real problem. Whether it's supermarkets, restaurants, flying, hot weather, or even leaving the house, it's often the fear story our brain has attached to those experiences that keeps us stuck.

    I'll explain how the brain learns to associate certain situations with danger, why your amygdala can't tell the difference between a real threat and a perceived one, and how this creates the fight-or-flight response that makes anxiety feel so convincing.

    We'll explore the common fear narratives behind health anxiety, from catastrophic "what if" thinking to fears that your body will betray you or that you won't cope. I'll also share why avoidance strengthens these beliefs and keeps the anxiety cycle going.

    Finally, I'll walk you through three practical steps that helped me break free: learning to recognise the fear story, asking more accurate questions instead of feeding worst-case scenarios, and regulating your nervous system before trying to challenge anxious thoughts.   • Resistance and Recovery: Finding Your Way Forward

    In this podcast episode, I talk about something that stops so many people from moving forward with health anxiety, and that is resistance.

    The truth is, anxiety often feels more familiar than freedom. As strange as it sounds, the patterns we've repeated for years can start to feel safe. The checking, the Googling, the appointments, the constant searching for answers. They become part of our normal.

    I see this all the time with clients. They tell themselves they'll start recovery after one more test, after one more appointment, when they feel more confident, when life is less stressful, or when they finally have certainty about their health. But what often looks like a lack of motivation or discipline is actually resistance.

    One of the biggest things I share in this episode is the difference between preparing to recover and actually recovering.

    Preparing looks like researching, analysing, listening to podcasts, reading books, booking appointments and gathering information. It feels productive, but it's still keeping you in the waiting room of recovery.

    Recovery begins when you start taking action despite the fear.

    It starts when you stop checking. When you resist the urge to Google. When you sit with uncertainty instead of trying to solve it. When you choose to trust yourself even though every part of you wants reassurance.

    So many people think they need confidence before they take action. But confidence doesn't come first. Confidence is built by taking action. Trust is built by taking action.

    Recovery isn't about getting rid of every symptom or reaching a point where you feel completely certain. It's about learning to live alongside uncertainty without letting it control your life.

    As you listen to this episode, I want you to ask yourself one question:

    Where is resistance showing up for me right now?

    Because often the thing you're resisting most is the very thing that will move you forward.

    And sometimes resistance isn't a sign to stop.

    It's a sign that you're standing right on the edge of change.

    And on the other side of that change is freedom.

  • My Personal Health Anxiety Journey - How I Got To Where I Am Now

    In this episode, I talk about my own journey with health anxiety after my diagnosis in 2018 and how it completely changed the way I related to my body. I share how fear, symptom scanning and the need for certainty slowly took over my life, and why nobody explaining the nervous system side of health anxiety left me feeling stuck for years.

    I also talk about one of the biggest shifts in my recovery… learning that trusting my body did not mean constantly monitoring it.

    For so long, I believed that staying safe meant staying hyper aware. Checking sensations, scanning my body and constantly looking for reassurance. But what I eventually realised is that this level of surveillance was actually a sign that trust had already been lost.

    I share how the nervous system can learn fear so deeply that the body begins reacting automatically before conscious thoughts even appear, because the body remembers. And how real healing for me came from slowly teaching myself that safety wasn’t found in constant checking… but in allowing my body to exist without being on high alert all the time.

    This episode is for anyone who feels exhausted by the fear cycle and wants to start rebuilding trust with themselves again.
