Context is Key is a show that dives into the historical context behind the text that people do not know. As a “common man”, I use a variety of resources to learn about the Bible and share them from a layman’s perspective. While we let the theologians, preachers, and pastors take over the evangelizing part of Christianity, we will focus on learning more about what the text meant at the time while discovering facts that are not commonly shared.

In this episode, we see Jesus healing a paralytic while the Pharisees question his authority. Jesus clearly shows his authority for all to see. In the middle of this episode, we see Jesus meeting Levi and asking him to be his disciple. We see how Levi follows, and he invites them over for dinner alongside other tax collectors and Pharisees. They then question Jesus about fasting, so Jesus tells them why fasting is not needed for his disciples. He then finishes this chapter by discussing how old traditions do not apply to new traditions. This is a representation about how the Old Covenant and Old Laws cannot be mixed with the New Covenant and New Laws.

In this episode, we see that Jesus goes to the Lake of Gennesaret as he recruits the first disciples. He does this after performing a miracle and telling Simon Peter that he will be a fisher of men. After the initial disciples start following him, we then see that Jesus goes to heal a leper. We see how the crowd reacts and his fame builds during this process.

In this episode, Jesus performs many miracles. We see how he will heal a man from an unclean demon, and we see a brief introduction to Simon and his mother, which will be expanded on in later chapters. Additionally, we see how Jesus heals many while still taking the time to be intentional. He makes it clear that his purpose is to be with all people, not just a specific group of people in a specific town.
