An incredible story, deftly told

This podcast tells the extraordinary story of Kris Maharaj, a British man sentenced to death for a double murder he didn't commit. Kris' story is pretty much the definition of the word clusterfuck - everything that can go wrong, does!

Narrators Sonya Pfeiffer and David Rudolf bring clarity to a complex tale. They cast a legal eye over proceedings, examining the evidence that tells a very different story to the prosecution at Kris' trial. As with any good murder mystery, the listener is encouraged to look beneath the surface. The Moo Youngs' briefcase operates as a kind of Pandora's box and takes us down a rabbit of hole all sorts of cartel shenanigans.

Framed by the police and screwed over by a US justice system that doesn't seem to care if you are innocent as long as they have someone for the crime, Kris' story is a gross miscarriage of justice. Nobody wants to admit they got it wrong.

This would be a hopeless story if it wasn't for the strength and determination of Kris, his wife Marita - both 82 - and his lawyers, notably Clive Stafford Smith, who has been representing Kris pro bono for 28 years. Clive now represents Kris through 3DC.org.uk (not Reprieve).

Interesting

Liked this podcast and unlike others of its kind has lots of original information in each episode rather than constant recaps. Also raising such an important issue and the profile of cases.

Compelling account of misjustice

Excellent coverage of such a sad case, David Rudolf and Sonya Pfeiffer ensure readers are following each twist and turn and constantly clarify law rules so everyone can follow this sad case. Admiration for all involved in this case who continue to be persistent in bringing justice for Kris and admiration for highliting the abuse of the system with all publications of abuse of power.

A worrying tale of injustice

When you hear about cases going through the appeal system your mind is generally drawn to criminals trying it on or trying to use a loophole to invade the justice they deserve. You might think about criminal people who have been accused of one more crime than they actually did commit but you don’t generally think about those that are entirely innocent and just at the wrong place at the wrong time. those people surely, would see the light of day quickly and the justice system would deliver quickly them.

The catalyst in this story is one lawyer who for reasons unknown and completely unexpectedly stayed silent when you had the opportunity to put forward a strong and compelling case for his client leading to decades of injustice.

Shocking

Have to give a caveat: I have not been able to verify the claims in this podcast, but if I give it the benefit of doubt, this is a terrible shocker.
Though I gotta say, the failing of the justice system is do utterly complete, it is quite hard to believe, this really happened.
They bring some convincing arguments, though.
