This breakthrough book presents a disarmingly simple idea: The way we pay attention in daily life can play a critical role in our health and well-being. According to Dr. Les Fehmi, a clinical psychologist and researcher, many of us have become stuck in “narrow-focus attention”: a tense, constricted, survival mode of attention that holds us in a state of chronic stress - and which lies at the root of common ailments including anxiety, depression, ADD, stress-related migraines, and more.

We tend to think of meditation as a formal practice we block time out for each day. But what if every moment of your life was your meditation? For Eckhart Tolle, meditation shouldn't be approached as a chore or a means to an end. Rather, meditation is something that you live. "The aim of meditation," states Eckhart, "is that it eventually becomes your normal state of consciousness." Essential Meditations with Eckhart Tolle points the way toward this quiet, constant state of Presence - where practice gives way to the realization of your innermost identity.

Despite the immense popularity of yoga today, there is surprisingly little knowledge of its roots among practitioners. This book brings together the core teachings of yoga in the words of their authors, rather than in the secondary versions of modern interpreters. Including key passages from the Upanishads, the Buddhist and Jaina traditions, the yoga sections of the Indian Tantras, and many texts that are being critically translated for the first time, Roots of Yoga provides a comprehensive and immediate insight into the essential texts of the Indian traditions of yoga.

Essential Practices for Resilient Well-Being
Based on a modern evolution of the ancient practice of Yoga Nidra, the easy-to-learn iRest program provides a flexible toolbox of meditation practices that you can incorporate into your lifestyle to carry you through adversity. In these six audio sessions, Dr. Miller takes you step by step through a progressive series of guided exercises for managing stress utilizing the breath and body, decoding and balancing your emotional state and connecting you with deep inner resources that replenish your vital energy and sustain you regardless of your circumstances.
"The practices in this program teach you how to respond rather than react to challenging situations and emotions," says Dr. Miller, "allowing you to experience all of life with unshakeable inner peace, mental clarity, and a harmonious relationship with the world around you."

A Postive For Stress Management & PTSD
Miller is both the author and narrator for this six part educational program specifically geared towards people suffering with PTSD. That said--the program would also be appropriate for anyone wanting meditation instruction with a focus on strengthening, stabilizing, and working with reducing and coping with all types of stress.
Miller developed the program for the US government to be used with soldiers and military personnel suffering from PTSD. The teachings are drawn from ancient Tibetan theory and practice but have been striped down to their bare essentials. This makes the information accessible to a wide range of backgrounds and belief systems. To put it bluntly, all the "woo-woo" has been removed. The listener gets solid, helpful and practical advice on working with stress and increasing resilience.
My favorite aspect of the program is that the end goal is to learn the practice and to be able to work the exercises on your own without the need to listen to the recording. Hence, self-reliance is built into the program. Much of this is based on presenting the listener with alternative or new ways of thinking and processing feelings.
A positive and easy to use program that I think is excellent for stress management with or without PTSD. Recommended listening.

Yoga nidra
Richard does a wonderful job teaching people how to relax and deal with difficult emotions. I listen to the full practice when I know I need to rest and sleep is not coming. I also find the visualizations very help in naming emotions. He needs to give more credit to the practice of yoga nidra from ancient India for this work. I find he uses his trademark ‘irest’ when speaking to your subconscious far too often.

Pretty good. But not for beginners
I have a feeling beginners 'might' feel overwhelmed by this. If this is your first foray into mindfulness meditation, then I'd go very slowly. This isn't really the type of book you read in a day anyway. Plenty of good stuff in here. A mixture of both meditation and psychology. I noticed aspects of CBT and even DBT in some of the meditations. There's also some more traditional style meditations. Nothing weird in here that would scare off the average westerner. If you're looking for something to help you overcome anxiety or depression, there are better options. I'd suggest this for people with stress or even trouble sleeping at night. The final meditation in this is a great one for right before bed or even in it. It will take most people a while to master this program completely. Don't let that scare you away. That said, I still think this is an ideal SECOND book on meditation with another option being your introduction.
